Umesh Shukla is one of the most promising directors Indian Cinema has found. He has been an actor, writer and director all in one. His most notable movie is 'OMG Oh My God!' a religious satire released in 2012.
Umesh struggled through to get to this stage. He started his career by acting in a few movies in small roles here and there. He then started writing. He wrote dialogues for 'Kucch To Hai' (2003). He did some writing work for 'Jodi Kya Banai Wah Wah Ramji', 'Fool N Final', 'Bachke Rehna Re Baba', 'Kis Kis Ki Kismat'. In 2009, he directed his debut movie 'Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge' which could not do much for him. He came back in 2012, this time stronger, with a Bollywood courtroom comedy 'OMG Oh My God!' based on a Gujarati play "Kanji Virudh Kanji'. The film was a concrete criticism against the age old orthodox religious practices, especially the Statue Worship. It starred Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Mithun Chakraborty in Pivotal roles. It was well appreciated by critics for the newness of the subject. Viewers found it eye - opening and reforming. The movie was awarded the best Indian Film Award by Institute of Research and documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS). The most favorable aspect about the movie was a positive word of mouth from the Viewers. The movie is already on a verge of becoming a cult movie. It also won the Big Star Most Entertaining Social Film Award for 2012.
With this success expectations from Umesh's next flick are rising. Umesh will next be directing 'Mere Apne', a light hearted family comedy drama featuring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role.
