Zoya Akhtar Biography

Zoya Akhtar is an eminent director, screenplay writer of Hindi film industry. She is born on January 9, 1974 in a filmy family to lyricist, Javed Akhtar and screenplay writer, Honey Irani. She is the twin-sister of B-Town actor Farhan Akhtar.

Zoya did her schooling from Maneckji Cooper and graduated from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Later, to pursue her passion, she went to New York University Film School, to study film production.

The talented lady debuted in the film, 'Kama Sutra - A Tale Of Love', playing a small role of one of the Rekha's disciple. She was also screened in the television commercials of the brand, Finolex and Pepsi. Her directorial venture being a music video called Prince Of Bullets rock band. She has worked as a casting director for the movies including, 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Kama Sutra - A Tale Of Love' and 'Split Wide Open'. Also, worked as assistant-director to her brother Farhan in the movies, 'Lakshya' and 'Dil Chahta Hai'.

Zoya's individual project as director was 'Luck by Chance' in the year 2009 and the film was critically acclaimed, but it could not please the box-office. Her next attempt was with 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', which proved to be both critically as well as commercially successful at the box-office and made her won Filmfare Award for Best Director category. Her another directorial endeavor was an anthology 'Bombay Talkies', where she directed one of the four short stories.

She worked as the executive producer for the film 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd' and been a screenplay writer for the blockbuster 'Talaash' (2012).
