The film franchise to the controversial 2020 action drama 365 Days has received a new trailer and images. 365 Days, released at the start of the pandemic and an instant hit, follows Laura, a Warsaw executive held captive by Massimo, a Sicilian gangster, and offered a year to fall in love with him. In the sequel, 365 Days: This Day, Anna-Maria Sieklucka will reprise her role as Laura, and Michele Morrone will return as Massimo. It is one of two Netflix-commissioned sequels that are being shot concurrently.
365 Days sparked outrage from the moment it debuted on Netflix, with many accusing it of glorifying abuse and declaring for it to be stripped away. This was accompanied by a slew of bad reviews, with many stating the contentious subject matter, a bad plot, and bad dialogue. This isn't to say it wasn't popular; 365 Days was the number one movie on the platform for 10 days.
While Netflix will undoubtedly be pleased with the inevitable media storm that 365 Days: This Day will cause, as the debate surrounding 365 Days increased its number of viewers, the trailer does not imply that the sequel will address any of the issues that irritated critics. It appears to be aiming for more of the same, which is presumably prudent from a business standpoint but disheartening from a storytelling standpoint. When it comes out on April 27th, ideally the trilogy will try and address the concerns that encircled the original's topic, or at the very least not cause an even bigger uproar.
