Denis Villeneuve, the famous filmmaker of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and ‘Arrival,’ has some fascinating projects in the works. According to current sources, his next film following ‘Dune: Part II’ would be a historical drama based on Cleopatra's life. This announcement verifies previous rumours and heightens interest in Villeneuve's next efforts.
The script for ‘Cleopatra’ is reported to have been written by David Scarpa, who is most known for his work on "Napoleon." The film will be based on Stacey Schiff's best-selling book about Cleopatra's ruthless climb to power and her mastery of seduction. It's worth noting that this new remake is anticipated to differ from the legendary 1963 picture starring Elizabeth Taylor.

The casting selections make this project much more fascinating. Zendaya, the gifted actress best known for her work in ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ has accepted the role of Egypt's young queen.
Timothée Chalamet, who has received critical praise for his roles in films such as ‘Call Me by Your Name’ and ‘Little Women,’ has also been given the part of Octavius. The directors are also apparently looking for Daniel Craig to play Caesar, which would give even more star power to the picture.
In an interview last year, Villeneuve emphasised his excitement about the project, saying, "I also have a historical film project on the life of Cleopatra. This project is now ongoing, and it greatly excites me.” Fans should anticipate Villeneuve to provide a unique viewpoint to this legendary man from history, given his track record of creating visually spectacular and thought-provoking films.
It's worth noting that a well-known Cleopatra film starring Elizabeth Taylor was released in 1963. While it earned mixed reviews, it was a commercial success and presented a fascinating insight into Cleopatra's reign in ancient Egypt. Scarpa, on the other hand, has stated that this new version would take a different approach, referring to it as a "political thriller" with a harsh R grouping.
