It's no secret that 'Dune' was one of the most anticipated films of 2021. Denis Villeneuve's (Arrival, Blade Runner: 2049) latest feature-length cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert's renowned sci-fi classic features an all-star cast. Its sequel, Dune: Part Two, aims to build on the popularity of the first film and is already one of the most anticipated films of 2023.
That's the end of the pompadour. Since Vanity Fair's exclusive first glimpse at the saga's imminent finale, writer-director Denis Villeneuve has teased Austin Butler's entire debut in 'Dune: Part Two' as the remorseless tyrant Feyd-Rautha. Initially, the Elvis star was only shown in silhouette, with his sleek figure, shaved head, and twin blades backlit.

Now, the new Dune: Part Two trailer shows the actor in all his dehumanised glory. He's lashing out, venting unfettered wrath against the forces attempting to rise up against the Harkonnens—the family of warlords he is poised to head as their next heir. "Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger," Villeneuve said in an interview with V.F.

The teaser begins in a considerably warmer setting, with Timothee Chalamet's exiled prince Paul Atreides and Zendaya's Chani, a young Fremen tribe leader, gazing out at Arrakis' vast, barren terrain. He tells her about his native world, which has oceans, seas, and rivers, and where water isn't harvested by the drop but can be dipped into for swimming. Chani has no understanding of such things.
The trailer then introduces us to Florence Pugh's new character, Princess Irulan, whose father, Emperor Shaddam IV (played by Christopher Walken), lords over the entire, volatile cosmos. "Many secrets lie in the shadows of Arrakis, but the darkest of them all may remain the end of House Atreides," she says. That battle, which served as the basis for the first Dune film, saw House Harkonnen violently depose the Atreides clan after the Emperor granted them mining control of the desert world. Only the princess realises how this disobedience could spread, upending everything.
