According to Hollywood Reporter Academy Award winner Russell Crowe is set to star in Julius Avery’s supernatural thriller ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’. The actor will play the role of real-life Vatican Church Father Gabriele Amorth. The priest is said to have acted as a chief exorcist and performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. In the year 2016 Amorth passed away at the age of 91.
Amorth has written two memoirs called ‘An Exorcist Tells His Story’ and 'An Exorcist: More Stories’ which have the details of his experiences with battling demons and helping the victims.
The screenplay for the film is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, with revisions by Chuck MacLean. “It’s been a goal of mine to work with Russell,” Avery said in a statement. “To collaborate with him on the amazing Pope’s Exorcist is truly a dream come true.”
The actor who won an Oscar for his role in 2000’s Gladiator. Recently, the actor wrapped up his work in Sony’s Marvel movie ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and will next star as Zeus in Taika Waititi’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ which will release on July 8.
