In a post on Instagram, Mr Asghari said: "After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.

"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always." Shit happens. "Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."

Spears' representatives have not commented, and she didn't address the divorce on Instagram, instead, she shared her excitement about "buying a horse soon." The dissolution of marriage petition, filed by Asghari, seeks spousal support and attorneys' fees from Spears. The couple met during the filming of her song "Slumber Party" in 2016. Asghari supported her fight against her father's conservatorship.

Their wedding, attended by Paris Hilton, Madonna, and Drew Barrymore, was held in Thousand Oaks, California, last year. Recently, they were seen without their wedding rings.
