Selena Gomez, an American singer and actress, is well-known for her upbeat music and vivacious performance. She is a prominent pop performer who has contributed to numerous chart-toppers, including ‘Good for You’, ‘Same Old Love’, and ‘Hands to Myself’,to mention a few. However, she got into difficulties because of her song ‘Come and Get It’.
Many Selena fans will recall the song Come and Get It, which started out with a hint of Indian classical music. Selena's decision to wear a bindi, a symbol of Hindu culture, made the song distinctive.
The song was even sung by Selena Gomez at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. The artist had a bindi on her forehead while performing, which certain Hindu groups did not appreciate. Rajan Zed, the head of the Universal Society of Hinduism, spoke to WENN and said, “The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol. It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed.”
Selena Gomez's item angered a number of online users as well. A user who was upset tweeted, “wtf, Selena Gomez? Really. Bollywood community r u pissed because you should be.” But then there were the supporters, like FearlessWithSel, who wrote, “Selena’s not even wearing a traditional bindi, she’s just wearing a decorative one. Stop overreacting, she’s not doing anything wrong.”

Another said, “Selena, take that bindi of your head; cultural appropriation is not cute.” A third follower said, “Cultural Appropriation At Its Finest, My Respect For Selena Is Fading As We Speak.” A fourth viewer tweeted, ” Hi, leave Bindis for Indian women.”
