Gal Gadot's threequel Wonder Woman 3 recently made headlines after it was claimed that it had been postponed. Patty Jenkins, who also directed the original two movies, was said to have left the project. However, she has since issued a statement explaining what happened and why Wonder Woman 3 is still in limbo.
According to reports, the director forsook Wonder Woman 3 after rejecting studio feedback on her treatment.
Many have also noted how Peter Safran and James Gunn's appointments as co-CEOs of DC Films came following Jenkins' alleged departure. Jenkins finally clarified what occurred while issuing a message on her social media.
Patty posted on Twitter, saying,’ When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding that there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.’
In her statement, Jenkins continued praising Gal Gadot and Lydia Carter, a former Wonder Woman who made a brief appearance in Wonder Woman 1984. She gushed over Gadot, calling the actress, ‘the greatest gift I have received in this whole journey. A cherished friend, inspiration, and sister.’
James Gunn responds to Patty Jenkins.
The co-CEO of DC Films stated that he and Peter Safran make every decision in the ‘service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS,’ even though James Gunn has previously used social media to address Wonder Woman 3 rumors. Gunn replied to Patty Jenkins' latest claim on Twitter by saying, ‘I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.’
