‘Hum Do Humare Baarah’ controversy; Director reacts

Bollywoodmdb recently reported that Annu Kapoor shared the poster for his upcoming film ‘Hum Do Humare Baarah’. The poster showcases the entire cast. The film is based on a family with Annu Kapoor as the head and eleven children with his wife pregnant with the twelfth child. After seeing the poster several social media users criticised the makers for isolating a whole community. Many pointed out the ‘brazen Islamophobia’ and depiction of Muslims ‘as the reason for population explosion’. The director of the film Kamal Chandra sat down for a conversation with us.

When director Kamal was asked about the poster alone bringing a controversial reaction from the audience, Kamal explained his film's motive. He shared how the film is about an important message and that people are deviating from the message. He explained how the problem of overpopulation is a real issue. Films have the power to bring to light simple concepts like if you have ten children and only a hundred rupees to raise them they will have too little e entities but if you had that same hundred and raised two children the standard of living improves greatly. The director elaborated that not only population but employment, education and many more such grassroots issues have been dealt with.

When asked about a section of the society feeling targeted and the Twitter messages on the same, Kamal shared how the film is not about the community. He elaborated that the issue and the message remain the same regardless of which community the characters belong to. He shared how it is an ‘Indian’ problem and not religious. He even shared how he feels that the contra very wouldn’t happen if they had made they wrote the family as part of another community. Kamal shared how a film with an important message is being subjected to hate for the wrong reasons.

In conclusion, Kamal shared how he believed when the audience will see the film which will release next year, they will feel that the controversy around the film is wrong.
