After cutting his teeth on acting with the 2015 film Love Exchange , promising Bollywood actor Mohit Madaan will next be seen in the upcoming Anant Mahadevan directorial, Aksar 2 . Also starring Zareen Khan and Gautam Rode in pivotal roles, the movie is a sequel to the 2006 hit flick Aksar , and is all set to arrive in cinemas on 6th October. As Aksar 2 races towards its release, BollywoodMDB Reporter, Mohnish Singh, catches up with Mohit for a candid conversation. In this interview, Mohit talks enthusiastically about his movie, his character, what kind of roles he prefers to do and much more.
Q. Tell us something about your character in Aksar 2.
A. My character name is Bachchan Singh in the film. Aksar 2 is a suspense thriller film so all the characters in the film are playing a grey shade. It is a trap that we are tangled in and trying to get out of it.
Q. How did you bag the role?
A. Our producer, Mr Narender Bajaj had called me to his office for a talk. I went there and found myself sitting in front of Mr Bajaj and our director Mr Ananth Mahadevan. That was a surprise and I was being thrown questions at me left right and centre. However, after that, they asked me to come in the character outfit the next day and the day after in another outfit and then a few days later they offered me my character. I wasn’t hesitant to accept this film; I was hesitant because the character is not like me at all in reality. So there was a little extra effort required for my preparation which was put in by Mr Mahadevan and myself.
Q. Did you always want to become an actor?
A. Acting was always part of me since I was a kid. I have always had a habit of making people laugh around me, regardless of the situation. I loved the idea of entertaining the audience and most importantly what excited me was the thought of playing different characters on screen which I may not even be in reality.
Q. When you were first getting into the business, what kind of actor did you want to be?
A. I’ve always wanted to remain a versatile actor. I’d rather not limit myself to a certain genre. As an actor, I’ve always wanted to be the people’s actor. I want the audience to appreciate my work and be willing to see my films. It’s the audience that will determine my length of stay in the industry. I want the audience to drive me into doing more and more films, because their expectations are what I will have to meet or if I can, exceed them with good films and acting.
Q. How is it to work with Zareen Khan and Gautam Rode?
A. Zareen Khan is a very comfortable person to work with. She is not high headed about her position in the industry which is one of her best qualities. Gautam is also an experienced actor who works hard. He has a calm attitude which allows you to get along and work well together.
Q. How was Anant Mahadevan as a filmmaker?
A. Anant Mahadevan is not just a director. He is a friend and a fellow actor. With this perception, he gets to know you and it makes it easier for him to get the performance he wants from you. There is one word that defines him which keeps him grounded after all these years as a successful Actor and Filmmaker. It is simplicity.
Q. If you could play any other character in Aksar 2, who would it be?
A. I don’t think I’d be able to play any other character as all our characters fit perfectly and have been justified by the actors' performances. But even if I had a choice, I’d definitely play the character of Sheena, played by Zareen Khan. Haha trust me, it’s not that simple.
Q. What kind of roles you prefer?
A. I prefer roles that are impactful and memorable. Characters that stay with the audience once they leave the cinema are the ones I’d rather do, whether it is the protagonist or any strong character.
Q. In which area would you like to improve as an actor?
A. I think I’ll continue to improve in all aspects of being an actor. I don’t think I’ll ever be perfect. I will need to be on my feet all the time and continue to improve in all areas every single day.
Q. If not an actor which other profession would you occupy?
A. I don’t think I see myself in any other profession apart from being an actor. This is it I suppose.
Q. What was the turning point of your career?
A. It’s too early for me in my career to have any turning point. Fortunately, I have started with Aksar 2 early in my career. Twist and turns will have to be dealt with ahead.
Q. What do you work toward in your free time?
A. I visualize in my free time. I dream. Then I tend to work towards it.
Q. Who is your celebrity crush?
A. Madhuri Dixit
Q. What is your favourite movie?
A. Hera Pheri (2000)
Q. What is your biggest fear?
A. You have to face many fears every single day throughout your life, whether big or small. Every day is a new challenge.
Q. What do you think is your most attractive feature?
I think that’s up to the people to decide.
Q. What's your one annoying habit?
A. I ask too many questions. Is that annoying?? Haha
Q. Describe yourself in a single line?
A go-getter who is driven by passion and hard work.
Q. Who is your inspiration?
A. Real Life - My Father
Reel Life – Shah Rukh Khan
Q. Is there any other upcoming project?
