Rossh

Q. What made you realize that music was your path?

A. I used to write a lot since my school days. My friends liked it too and motivated me. When I moved to college, I started listening to Western music. Then I started working on creating some basic beats and tried to put words to it. It slowly became my passion and I haven’t looked back since.

Q. Was it difficult for you to venture into the music industry?

A. Yes, it was. Initially, during my debut track, all music companies refused to take it as it was a little unique. But my fans loved it and because of them, I am here.

Q. Is your family musical?

A. No. My dad was in the Army and my mom is a housewife.

Q. What are your fondest musical memories?

A. When you are an underground artist and have big dreams, getting any sort of appreciation from bigger artists mean a lot to you. Receiving messages from Honey Singh and Fazilpuria were very motivating. But nothing beats getting Bollywood break in Kung Fu Yoga movie.

Q. How did you bag the opportunity to compose the title track of Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu Yoga?

A. We sent a scratch to Zee Music and Sonu Sir loved it so it was a done deal. Fazil bhai was searching for a beat track for himself. That is when I sent him the goosebump track. He made Sonu Sood bhai listen to it and he liked it a lot. So from there itself, I created the full track.

Q. Have you ever considered joining a band or you always wanted to be a solo singer?

A. I always wanted to be a solo singer. As I love to experiment and when you are in a band you have some boundaries so I love to work alone.

Q. Do you wish to compose and rap for films?

A. Yes. In Kung Fu Yoga, I have already done that.

Q. How much do you practice singing a week?

A. 14 hours a week

Q. Besides being a singer, what is Rossh in real life?

A. A countryside boy who enjoys peace in the mountains with his wife, having a glass of wine. I also love off-roading adventures. I like to work hard on my fitness; cycling and running are my hobbies.

Q. Which famous singers do you admire? Why?

A. Nusrat Ji, because of his feel and composition.

Q. What is your favourite song that isn’t your own?

A. Ye Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai (By NusratJi) and Pia Haji Ali by AR Rahman Sir.

Q. What are you up to next?

A. Creating more masala tracks for the Industry. I am eyeing the big Bollywood projects also.
