'NAKSHATRA' is a Hindi feature film which stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shubh Mukherjee, Sabina Sheema, Gajendra Chouhan and others. This film falls in the category of a thriller but would you really get thrilled while watching the film? Please read the review below to know what kind of film it is!
The story of the film is such:
Ajay Kapoor (Shubh Mukherjee) is a film writer who stays at his uncle's house and waits desperately to get success in scriptwriting. He struggles hard to make a place in Bollywood, but all his efforts prove to be futile. It seems that he is talented and can write good scripts. However he spends most of his time playing video games.
Ajay loves Jiya (who is his uncle's daughter). Jiya (Sabina) is an officer in a software company. She doesn't like him playing video games all the times and asks him to take up some serious job which can earn him money. Ajay gets fed up of Jiya's remarks and he gets irritated. Finally Jiya drops him an ultimatum that if he didn't find any suitable job for himself, she would leave this country and zoom off to Australia to join a big company and stay there forever. Ajay doesn't know what to do!
Before two months deadline set by Jiya could be over, Ajay gets a job to write a script for some newcomers. These newcomers are four friends who are producing the film. The four friends who are producing the film have a film story on bank robbery but the story doesn't excite Ajay. Ajay wants to write another exciting story on necklace theft because sometime back when he had visited a museum with his uncle Sharad Sir (Anupam Kher) he had seen a real diamond necklace in the museum. It had inspired him to weave a story around that diamond necklace. Eventually he writes another story for them, which is based on theft of a diamond necklace which is highly expensive and kept under very tight security in a museum. To write the script, Ajay visits museum frequently where the diamond necklace was kept under tight security and observes everything.
Finally, he completes the script and delivers it to the producers. But after that the diamond is stolen from the museum.
Police inspector Gupte (Milind Soman) is given the charge to grab the thief and send him behind the bars. Inspector Gupte watches the footage of close circuit camera and finds Ajay's presence most of the times in the museum. Thus in his opinion, Ajay becomes the prime suspect.
Meanwhile, while Ajay and Jiya are getting engaged in their engagement ceremony, the inspector barges in, and accuses Ajay for stealing the diamond. Ajay gives clarification that he had to write script based on diamond theft hence he visited the museum frequently to do some research. But Gupte doesn't believe Ajay and arrests him. Everyone get shocked to know this.
Sharad consoles Ajay not to worry. He assures him that he would fight for him and would take him out of jail soon.
Later on Jiya comes to know that Ajay was trapped and there were other people who had conspired to frame Ajay for their own benefits.
While Ajay tries to prove his innocence, another twist comes into the story of the film. The four producers who had asked Ajay to write the script get killed one by one.
Who is the killer? Why are the four producers being killed? Who had trapped Ajay? How would he prove his innocence? These are some questions which make the rest of the film.
There is suspense and thrill in the film but very little. The presentation of the film could have been better and more thrills could have been created. The film lacks romance and the character of the heroine Jiya is not portrayed well. The writer and the director seem confused about the character of Jiya which is one of the biggest drawbacks of the film.
This film is directed by the debutante director Mohan Savalkar. Though he has not succeeded in doing it very well, his work is not even bad. Since audiences can anticipate the plot, the film loses its capacity to hook the audiences till the end. For it, the scriptwriter needs to be blamed. The scriptwriter has written a weak script with too many loopholes in it.
There are three music directors in the film such as Harry Anand, Dj Sheizwood and Sameer Sen. Some songs hinder the speed of the film. However, two songs are okay. You would like the song 'Ye Wada' to play more than once. But these songs are not so good which could benefit the film in anyway.
There is freshness in the pair Shubh Mukherjee and Sabeena. Sabeena impresses you in many scenes whereas Shubh is average in his performance. Anupam Kher is as good as ever but he has got very less footage on the screen. Milind Soman too has tried to perform well. Gajendra Chauhan has got very less footage yet he leaves good impact.
Some chase sequences are filmed well and are worth watching. Apart from the director and fight master, the DOP Roopang Aacharya should also be admired for it. It is a weak but not a bad film.
You can watch this film if you have nothing to do. However if you don't watch it you miss nothing.
