Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Review

One line Review: With beautiful locations, outstanding performances and a sentimental plot, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Positive Points: The real human feelings are beautifully weaved in the storyline. The director has wisely handled the depiction. All the actors have portrayed their part brilliantly; the movie is shot in gorgeous locales. The movie is for lovers and will be liked by those who have gone through the emotions closely.

Negative Points: The roots and the background of the actors are kept unexplored hence, there is no connecting aspect. Also, the movie has a typical Bollywood feel to it, having some factors seeming far from reality.

Plot: Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor) meets Alizeh (Anushka Sharma) in a bar and they both strike an instant connection, soon they become best of friends. Alizeh has a painful past where she has broken up with her long time boyfriend Ali (Fawad Khan). Soon, Ayan falls in love with Alizeh but, she only feels for him as a friend (a typical friend zone situation).

When Ayan and Alizeh are holidaying in Paris, they meet her ex-boyfriend Ali, who is a DJ at a club. Ali and Alizeh get back together, they even get married. Ayan is devastated with his lost love and, he then seeks solace in Saba (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). But, still he continues to love Alizeh whole heartedly which leads to his separation with Saba. The climax reveals whether or not Ayan will get his true love, Alizeh.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Karan Johar is back with yet another emotional drama; needless to say Ae Dil Hai Mushkil too has a feel of what Johar is known for, narrating heart touching stories. The director has skilfully portrayed that pain is an inevitable part of love. The character-sketch of all the actors is very well established. The actors take the story to another level with their superlative performances. The mindful cinematography makes everything visually beautiful. The narration is smooth, but not very gripping. The editing could have been tighter, though the sequences are captured aptly.

Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor’s dialogues are super filmy and fun. Their dialogues are sure to give you lovable doses of laughter every now and then. The first half of the movie is likable, the second half seems dragged. The dialogues between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir are like pleasant reminiscences, pleasurable and thought provoking. A few dialogues like ‘Love Tedha Hota Hai’, ‘Pyaar me Junoon hai, Dosti me Sukoon Hai, and others manage to stay with you.

Performances: Ranbir Kapoor is undoubtedly a brilliant actor. He has proved himself with versatile roles in the past and with this film he raises the bar yet again. He pulls off comedy, pleasure, pain, hurt, joy and every other emotion effortlessly. A treat for all his fans for sure.

Anushka Sharma is a pure gem. She emotes liberation with her presence and skilfully pulls off all the required emotions aptly while looking extremely beautiful. She perfectly fits the role and does complete justice to the character.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks drop dead gorgeous in every frame. The diva presents a flawless performance in every frame that she is.

Fawad Khan who has a cameo appearance in the film essays the role of Ali, Anushka’s love interest. He performs his part justifiably.

Lisa Haydon, Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo roles are like the cherry on the cake. They positively support the film with their parts.

Music: The songs are the major highlight of the film. Along with the star studded cast, music is another aspect that will aid in increasing the footfalls at the theatres. The title track ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, ‘Buleya’, ‘Breakup Song, ‘Channa Mereya’ and others are blockbusters! The background score is apt.

Final Verdict: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will help lovers to experience and may be relive their moments of love, pain, obsession and friendship. The film is completely a play of emotions. The star studded cast, lovely songs, and all other filmy aspects can sum up for a good weekend treat.
