One line Review: Baaghi is the story of two lovers who fight with a powerful villain for the sake of their love.
Positive Points: The movie offers hardcore action sequences which are a delight for all the action lovers. Hand to hand combat scenes, martial arts and the ancient art of Kalaripayattu are captivating. The gorgeous locales of Kerela and Thailand are captured beautifully. The songs are appealing.
Negative Points: The story is clichéd and there is nothing new in the basic plot. Apart from that, expectations were built from the trailer about Shraddha’s action sequences, which in the movie are considerably less.
Plot: The film narrates the tale of Ronny (Tiger Shroff) a spoilt army brat, who is sent to a martial arts academy by his dying father to discipline him. Ronny though a very capable learner, continues his mischief until he finally understands the importance of the art taught by the Guru. Sia (Shraddha Kapoor), an upcoming actress of the south, is Ronny’s love interest. They meet, become friends and fall in love.
Raghav (Sudheer Babu), a martial arts champion, is the supremely powerful baddie of the film, who also falls for Sia. The problem arises when Sia’s father (Sunil Grover) compels her to marry Raghav for the sake of money. The story unfolds when Raghav kidnaps Sia and takes her to Bangkok. Will Ronny be able to win his love back? Makes up for the rest of the film.
Direction and other Technical Aspects: Tiger Shroff’s action is the soul of this film. His fantastic flexibility and training is evident on the big screen. The director and his team have done a remarkable job when it comes to capturing action and combat sequences. But, the story lacks innovation and the plot is very basic. Dialogues and the writing work are decent. A few of Tiger’s dialogues like ‘Abhi Toh Maine Start Kia Hai’ stay with you. Tiger and Shraddha look extremely good together and share a good chemistry. This young new pair works well on-screen. Shraddha Kapoor’s action scenes were good but, are very limited. It would have been great if she was given more opportunity to perform combat scenes.
Performances: Tiger Shroff performs decently when it comes to acting. His core strengths are action and dance in which he excels completely and, has raised the bar even more.
Shraddha Kapoor does fair justice to her role. She looks gorgeous in every frame. She pulls off the action scenes quite well but, the limited sequences makes the audience crave for more.
Sunil Grover is perfect as a funny yet selfish father. Although he has a very limited screen space, he does play his part convincingly.
Sudheer Babu plays the role of a villain. Apart from a few fight sequences, his part is not very impressive.
Music: The songs in the film are appealing. A few of them are already topping the music charts. The background score is good.
Final Verdict: The movie will be a pleasure for all the action lovers. Overall the film sums up to a decent weekend treat, Baaghi can be a onetime watch.
