Baahubali - The Beginning Review

One line Review: An enthralling primeval tale featuring impeccable performances by the actors, strong plot and very well execution of the script.

Positive Points: S.S.Rajamouli's commendable direction, exceptional special effects, the involving plot and storyline successfully keeps the audiences hooked throughout. The sudden end to the climax leaves you wanting for more.

Negative Points: The second half of the movie is a bit stretched to length and seems overboard at a few frames. Some sequences are dragged unnecessarily.

Plot: The movie is about a young and extraordinarily powerful boy Shiva (Prabhas) who has a mysterious story behind his birth. Brought up within a small community of people, Shiva always had a quest of knowing more about the place beyond their tribal territorial border. Finally after several years of trying and sheer perseverance, Shiva reaches the place he always wanted to explore only after serious and hardcore mountain climbing which was impossible for a common human being. There he instantly falls in love with Avantika (Tamannaah Bhatia), who is a part of a rebel group and has dedicated her life completely to acquire the freedom of Devasena (Anushka Shetty). Devasena was the queen of Mahishmati kingdom and the wife of the honoured, respected and kind King Bahubali. In the present, the kingdom where Devasena is incarcerated is ruled by the cruel King Bhalladev (Rana Daggubati). For the love of Avantika, Shiva takes the oath to free Devasena from her lifelong imprisonment and enters the regime of King Bhalladev. What this kingdom's association with Shiva is and where it leads to is a further watch in the first part of the two part series film.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Director S.S.Rajamouli has done an appreciable task with the direction and execution of the storyline. The film skilfully depicts the nuances of the ancient times and the special effects are executed pleasantly. The plot is strong and the cinematography is fantastically done. The second half is dragged a bit too much which could have been cut down short for some sequences.

Performances: Prabhas has performed exceptionally and showcased his skills to the fullest in the movie. Rana Daggubati also has essayed his part incredibly well when it comes to depicting the cruelty or flaunting his strength. Tammanaah is also on the top of her acting game in this movie. The Raj Mata's character is essayed with full conviction, Kattappa, Aslam Khan and other supporting characters have also have done justice to their roles.

Music: The songs are averagely composed and are passable. The Hindi adaptation and dubbing of a Telugu movie has evidently affected its songs and to some extent even the dialogues. But the background score is superbly synchronised with the visuals and aptly suit the sequences which manage to decently cover up.

Final Verdict: The film will be a treat for the movie lovers who enjoy historical depiction and larger than life sequences. 'Baahubali' is a visual splendour and extravagance in true sense. It is a must watch as it renders one with a relishing experience to take back home.
