Bhootnath (Amitabh Bachchan) is sent to heaven where he is laughed at and ridiculed for failing to scare the kid. Now he asks for one more chance so he make up for his failure. No sooner he is sent on Earth, he befriends a brash and bratty slum kid named Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao). Akhrot helps Bhoothnath to scare kids and in return he helps Akhrot to join their group to play cricket. Akhrot also introduces Bhoothnath to his mother (Usha Jadhav), who is scared and reluctant in the beginning, but later accepts him.
When Bhootnath asks Akhrot as to why he doesn't make a living by stealing, he tells that prefers to earn a living with hard work and honesty. Bhoothnath lands with a grand plan to help Akhrot to do this, by evicting ghosts from pending construction sites, helping them pass on to the afterworld and thus earning money from the builders.
However, when Bhau (Boman Irani), a local gangster turned politician asks them to evict one building, they are faced with a moral dilemma and they refuse, thus locking horns with Bhau. Now Akhrot urges Bhoothnath to challenge Bhau in elections and hence bring him down. Though he refuses initially, he buys the idea and gets ready, whereby he is helped by a local honest lawyer (Sanjay Mishra).
Now, we have a dead man challenging a corrupt politician in elections and it is to be seen what does it bring for all of them at the end.
