Dam999 Review

DAM999 is a feature film (made in languages like English, Hindi, and Malayalam etc.) which released on 25th November, 2011. This film has been produced by BizTV Network and is a 3-D film.

Story : This is the story of some corrupt people who have built a dam which may explode at any moment and take the lives of many. This is also the story of some people who fight for justice.

Vinay(Vinay Rai) is a mariner. His son Sam (Jineet Rath) is a diabetes patient. After a long time Vinay, with his son Sam goes to meet his father Shankaran (Rajit Kapur). Shankarnan, who is an ayurvedic doctor in the village, and also practices astrology, becomes very glad on the arrival of his son and grandson. A twist comes in the story when Meera comes in the contact of Vinay. Meera was Vinay's first love but due to some circumstances, Vinay got married to Sandra (Linda Arsenio). But Sandra didn't pay attention to her husband because of her work as a reporter. Hence Vinay was somewhere unsatisfied with her which eventually had led to separation. On seeing Vinay back in the village, Meera doesn't know how to react. However, she is happy to know that Vinay had come back to his village. But things take turn and Vinay starts resuming his relationship with Meera.

When Vinay and Meera start getting closer then some circumstances make Sandra to arrive in his village. She wants to stay with Vinay.

A dam has been constructed by some greedy people. This dam has to be inaugurated but before that it is found that dam's construction was not proper and can explode any time. Sandra covers the news and she spreads this news that the dam was not safe and could explode any time which could take lives of millions.

There are villains who are against Vinay, Meera and Sandra. But Vinay has determined to fight with them. What would happen later? Would the dam explode? Or would the corroupt people behind making that faulty dam get exposed and booked? These are the answers given in the rest of the film.

Performance : Vinay Rai fails to impress. He lacks expression in many scenes. Jineet Rath, who plays the son of Vinay, is irritating and doesn't convince you as a diabetic child. However, in a few scenes, he appears to be natural. Rajit Kapur is as usual and fits into the role. Vimla Raman is average and so is Linda Arsenio. Joshua Fredric is below average. Ashish Vidyarthi has justified his role of Durai in a well manner.

Script : Script, written by Rob Tobin and the director himself, is okay; especially it is good in its message and tries to convey the message that how greedy and powerful people are playing with the lives of innocent people with the help of some corrupt officials. However, it turns out to be like any documentary. And a documentary doesn't need a love story; above all a confused love story.

Direction : The direction by Sohan Roy is average. It couldn't properly justify the script in many aspects. The director has unnecessarily inserted many songs which weakens such serious plot. He hasn't put effort in making his actors perform as required by the script. He had diverted his attention on other aspects rather than the main line.

Plus Points : Message of the film.

Minus Points : Casts, Music and Poor Direction

Conclusion : This film has been made with good intention (keeping in mind the real problem of Kerala & Tamil Nadu on real issue and is based on the award winning documentary-DAMs-THE LETHAL WATR BOMBS and also based on the Banqiao dam disaster of 1975 which took lives of millions in China and the same is being anticipated as a calamity in Mullaperiyar Dam which is in Kerela) but due to low star cast and language problem, it would hardly attract masses. It is good to convey a message but not good to earn revenues for the makers. Only a few intellectual people would like to watch and appreciate it.

Verdict : Good effort by its makers to do something different! If you like watching burning issues in news, debate of Arnab Goswami or debete conducted by Sardeai, you would like the film. Go for it once because its different!
