FROM SYDNEY WITH LOVE is a feature film in Hindi language that released on August 31, 2012. It stars Prateek Chakravorty, Sharad Malhotra, Bidita Bag, Evelyn Sharma, Karan Sagoo, and Sabyasachi Chakraborty. It has been directed by Prateek Chakravorty. In fact Prateek Chakravorty has made his debut in as many as four roles with this film viz., the producer, writer, director and even actor. FROM SYDNEY WITH LOVE belongs to the genre of family comedy.
Story : Meghaa Banerjee (Bidita Bag) is a small town girl, whose dream of studying abroad gets fulfilled when she earns a scholarship from the prestigious University of New South Wales in Australia to pursue her Masters degree in Economics. In the University, she makes new friends. Raj (Prateek Chakravorty) is a student at the University, who is overweight but has a heart of gold. He stays in Sydney with his best friend Rohit (Sharad Malhotra). Both the friends fall in love with Megha. Megha also falls in love with Rohit but considers Raj as a 'good friend'.
One night she gets intoxicated at a party and ends up sleeping with Rohit. When she comes back to senses, she feels ashamed about the incident and accuses herself for letting her conservative father down. She leaves for Bengal without meeting Rohit. Both Rohit and Raj also visit Bengal in search of Megha. As fate would have it, both end up staying with Mehga's family as her guests. Who manages to get Megha in the end is dealt with in the rest of the film.
Performance : Debutant actor Prateek Chakravorty's performance cannot be said to be good. He has failed to impress the audience with his acting skill. Same is the case with Bidita Bag and Evelyn Sharma. TV actor Sharad Malhotra's performance is average. Only the veteran actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty, who has played Bidita's father, has performed decently.
Direction : Prateek Chakraborthy is the grandson of the well-known producer Pramod Chakraborthy. Having a filmi background should have helped him to deliver a better product. In the first half of the film, the director has tried to take the audience on a sight-seeing of Sydney. Thus the visuals are quite appealing. But the film moves on very slowly and is unable to present any storyline. The second half has incorporated slight humour but even then without a proper story and weak screenplay, you start losing interest in the film. Prateek will have to become mature as a writer, director and an actor as well.
Conclusion : The film has nothing new for the intelligent or even the general audience. They have seen many movies in the past with the similar storyline. Even the dialogues don't seem to impress. The film is a love story but it lacks emotions. Youngsters who want to watch such love stories again and again without emotion can watch this film. Otherwise it is needless to spend hard-earned money and precious time in watching this movie.
