GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 (गेंग्स ऑफ़ वासेपुर 2) is a Hindi feature film which is part 2 of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR (गेंग्स ऑफ़ वासेपुर) which released on June 22 this year. Its 2nd part i.e. GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 (गेंग्स ऑफ़ वासेपुर 2) releases today. It has been directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by him and Bohra Brothers. It falls in the genre of crime thriller. Should you watch it? Read the review below.

Story : Its story starts from where part 1 had ended. In part 1 Manoj Bajpai is gunned down at the petrol pump. This film begins showing last rites of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai). Thereafter his eldest son Danish goes on taking revenge by killing them who had killed his father. It appears that the film is going to continue with him but he too is soon killed. You don't see any fire in Faizal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddique) who is always engrossed in smoking hashish. But one day his mother evokes him by telling him that doesn't your blood boil? And at that time he assures her that he would take revenge of everyone. And people clap at his dialogue!

And thereafter he goes on taking revenge with them who had killed his family. His style is different!

Many new characters keep entering in the film, which keep you hooked.

However, Faizal's sole aim is to kill Ramadhir Singh. Would he be able to kill a minister who has contacts with influential people and who is himself a dreadful coal mafia?

There are many betrayals in the film and many twists and turns in it.

Acting : Nawazuddin as Faizal Khan is superb! In fact he has stolen the show. The way he has acted is brilliant and it can be said that he has become one of the rising star if he is used properly. The audience were shouting and clapping on some of his dialogues and gestures which show that he has made a place in the hearts of the audience. Richa Chadda as Nagma Khatoon (mother of Faizal) has also done her part very well. Even though she is young she has played the role of old mother brilliantly and at any time she doesn't let you feel that she is young. Reema Sen as Durga has got very less footage in this film (who had got a long footage in part 1 and in that she looked hot and glamorous) and she is okay. Rajkummar Rao as Shamshad is good especially when he is in police station trapping Faizal Khan. Zeishan Quadri who is also the writer of this film, has played the role of 'Definite' and he has done his part very well. He has copied the looks of his character of Salman Khan of 'Tere Naam'. Manoj Bajpai as Sardar Khan has nothing to do in this film. Only his last rites take place. A few shots of previous films have been shown in it. Piyush Mishra is okay as the narrator of the film. Tigmanshu Dhulia completely fits into the character of Ramadhir Singh.

Script : The script of the film is good. Its screenplay is tight and since it is based on real incidents you don't need to find flaws in it. The writer and the director have shown you some unique and interesting characters such as 'Perpendicular' and 'Definite'. The character 'Perpendicular' would surely impress you. Not only in terms of acting but the way he commits crime and the way he lives; his mannerism and many other things. And all the credit goes to the writer and the director to create such character. However the dialogues are vulgar at many places because vulgar abuses have been used.

Music : Music by Sneha Khanwalkar is according to the subject. Anyone who hasn't watched the film can hardly enjoy its music but once you watch the film you can get the feeling of its songs and music. Except one song, all other songs appear from background, which are different and good. The songs are sung in unique manner and so is their music. 'Kaala Re' sung by Sneha herself is impressive and leaves impact in the film the way it is picturized. However, the song 'Bahut Khoob' has no meaning in the film and it seems it has been inserted forcibly. The song 'Taar Bijli' has been sung by Sharda Sinha which is good. If you listen to the song 'Aabroo' without watching the film you get an impression that two opposite parties are singing this song challenging each other. But in this film the song has not been filmed well (it could have been better) as it just appears from background and the visuals do not run accordingly. The song 'Moora' is an inspiring song which has been sung by Sneha and Deepak Kumar separately. Though Sneha's voice is not pleasant in this song, you would like the situation where it has been fitted. And the same song sung by Deepak appears to be good in listening. The song 'Joota' appears good in listening as well it is used at the righ place in the film.

Background music is top notch. It is unique and completely fits the subject. In fact the music uplifts the effect of the film to great extent. Background music in pre-climax is excellent.

The music director Sneha should be appreciated for the manner she has composed songs in this film which remind you all the folk songs of Bihar & Jharkhand. These are not the songs sung in Bihar & Jharkhand but the manner remains the same.

Cinematography : The DOP Rajeev Ravi has shot some visuals which can be highly appreciated. To shoot one long shot in one stretch in not an easy task! He has captured many real locations very well. However, at some places he has focused on side characters rather that zooming in into main character so the main character looks blurred.

Editing : The editor should have used some other shots instead of blurred shots. Otherwise the editing is good.

Action : Action is given by Shyam Kaushal. There is hardly any fight scene in this where action masters generally use their talent. In this film mostly chasing scenes and gunshots are filmed. However, the action master has used his talent in creating blasts scenes which are highly admirable. It is surely watchable the way action master has used his talent.

Choreography : In this film there is hardly any live song. However, in one song a launda (लौंडा) dances. In Bihar 'launda' (लौंडा ) is termed for male who dress up in ladies costume and dance pretending to be lady to entertain you. 'Launda' dance is not well presented in this film.

Direction : The direction of this film by Anurag Kashyap is excellent. In fact it is top notch. His takings and shots and superb! It seems that he had taken the first shot of part 1 (which continues in part 2 also) in one stretch without any cut which is unique and rarely done in Hindi cinema. I remember that only CID serial contains a big shot like it (without any cut).

It also appears that Anurag has shot some real shots with hidden cameras or without letting the audience to know that shooting is being done. When you watch some scenes on the roads when Shamshad chases Definite you can get this feeling. It also seems that it was the last shot of the film, when Masjid in Mumbai is shown, for which Anurag must have been arrested for shooting it secretly and without obtaining permission.

Once again Anurag should be appreciated for his brilliant direction. The blasting shots which he has filmed appear natural and are very effective. The only thing is that he could not end the film in a proper way; may be because it would be in his mind to make sequel later on.

Anurag and the writer have also inserted some funny moments which appear to be natural and make you laugh instantly.

In previous part Anurag did not keep romantic part (in long footage) but in this part he also shows you romantic side of a dreadful criminal Faizal Khan which would entertain you.

But at the last rites of any dead person why he kept songs sung by Yashpal Sharma is out of question.!

Plus Points : Excellent Direction; Excellent Background Music; Tight Screenplay; Mind Blowing Blasting Scenes; Nawazuddin's Top Notch Performance

Minus Points : Abusive Dialogues; Unpleasant End

Conclusion : Though its first part was full of vulgar dialogues and brutality this film is not so. It runs consistently with tight screenplay without confusing you. It has been directed very well and vulgarity and brutality has been controlled. It would surely attract audience due to the real crime and the way it has been picturised.

Box Office Prediction : This film is far better than part 1 and would surely attract huge audience and would earn much more than part 1.

Verdict : It is a unique film and no such type of crime based film has been made ever in India. It is a must watch for them who are even a bit interested in crime and real crime. It is worth watching (but ignore its abusive dialogues).
