Avinash (Anil Kapoor), Priti (Aishwarya Rai) & two adorable children Rahul & Pinky, live together in a 'home' in Delhi. But Avinash & Priti are not husband & wife and Rahul & Pinky are not their children.... The relationship shared by Avinash & Priti is one of compassion & pain, misunderstood by a scorning society ! But they are unaffected by it. Priti's quiet dignity & caring nature are enough reason for Avinash's liking for Priti to turn into love. He asks her to be his wife. But she refuses.... In Avinash she sees a God who had rescued her from the shackles of shame & abandonment. Her traumatic past & the haunting feeling of being unworthy of him never ceases to leave her..
