Rating: 3/5
One line Review: A pure depiction of timeless romance with striking moments and intense sequences.
Positive Points: The movie is shot is gorgeous locales be it the hotels, the flower gardens or Dubai. The captivating and melodious songs, striking and applaud worthy performances by all the lead actors that made the story believable.
Negative Points: The transition between the flashbacks was fairly uneven. A few sequences did not flow smoothly creating loopholes. The dialogues were a bit too overboard. The script was loose and hence could not keep the audiences hooked throughout. There were a few sequences that today's generation may not relate to and feel are illogical.
Plot: 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' talks about timeless romance and intense emotions that one goes through when in deep, true and pure love. This is the story of Vasudha (Vidya Balan) who is grown up in a conservative environment where women are taught to respect their husbands no matter what, all the Samaj and Sanskar thing is bestowed upon her since young age. Her father gets her married to Hari (Rajkummar Rao) who after one year of marriage disappears suddenly with no clue of his existence. It is later known to her that Hari is part of a terrorist group. Vasudha works as a florist in a five star hotel to take care of herself and her son. When by coincidence she meets Aarav Ruperal (Emraan Hashmi), the owner of multiple chain five-star hotels around the world.
Impressed by her work, Aarav offers her a job in his hotel in Dubai. Considering the monitory benefits for herself and her son she takes up the offer and shifts to another country. Aarav gradually realises his love for Vasudha and confronts her and after the initial denial Vasudha also realises her feelings and falls for him. When the tragic life of Vasudha seems to take a positive route, her horrible past comes back to haunt her. Hari returns to her life only to ruin it and make it worse. Will the true lovers meet or as the title suggests, their kahani remains Adhuri forever is the further watch in the movie.
Direction and other Technical Aspects: The characters are not completely developed and flourished and their individual story remains untold. The direction is average as it did not successfully keep the grip and failed to hold the audiences hooked throughout. The script and the dialogues were fairly average too. The songs were thumbs up; the compositions were brilliant and soul touching.
Performances: All the actors did a remarkable job due to which the story was upheld despite the weak script. I was never an Emraan Hashmi fan but after watching this movie, I truly have become one! He has done complete justice to his role and expressed his emotions to the fullest in every scene. Vidya Balan undoubtedly is one of the finest actresses in the industry and with this film she proves it all again. She portrays her role with full conviction and dedication. Rajkummar Rao is an endowed actor. He is blessed with natural performing skills that help him to do every role with honesty. Though he is seen in relatively lesser frames, still makes his presence felt strongly.
Music: Music is the soul of this film. All the songs are melodious and one cannot stop humming them even long after leaving the theatres. All the songs are already topping the music charts.
Final Verdict: The film will be a treat for the audiences who love romantic movies. This intense love tale will be a delight to watch along with your loved ones. This is sure not a depiction of the new age love and romance but a heart-warming one.
