KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL is a Hindi feature film, which released today (i.e. on 28th September, 2012). It has been produced under the banner of Percept Picture Company and has been directed by Priyadarshan. It falls under the genre of comedy. But does it make you laugh? Is it worth watching? Read the review below.
Story : Peter (Paresh Rawal) and David (Om Puri) are friends who buy lottery tickets together. Later on Peter betrays David and he becomes rich and starts possessing bungalow, four wheelers etc. Shreyas (Johnny) is a timid, darpok son of David, who is always beaten up by someone in the village. Even the children do not spare him. On the other hand, Peter's daughter loves him. But Peter has 3 sons who are against the love of their sister and Johnny, and they keep beating him up every now and then. They do not even spare his father and in a scene they beat him also severely.
One day, Sam (Nana Patekar) enters into the village in a mysterious way and gets into the life of Johnny. Johnny observes that Sam was brave and could beat others so he makes him his bodyguard. But Sam is always seen doing some mysterious things. Actually there is mystery behind his arrival to this village.
What would be the result of the love of Johnny and Peter's daughter? What is the mystery of Sam? All such queries are answered in the remaining part of the film.
Performance : Though it is a film of Sheryas Talpade, he is not impressive. Even though he has got more than enough footage to show his acting skills, he fails to do so. He is average or just above average. So is the case with Nana Patekar. He has given brilliant performance in the past and you expect the same here. But you would get disappointed that he has not done his best. You don't find the charisma in him here as you did in the past. It is also the debut film of Madhurima who has played the role of Maria who tried to do well. But as a debutant she has been wasted and did not get much opportunity to show her acting skills. In the role of Peter, Paresh Rawal is as usual. He has done nothing extra and you have watched him performing in this way several times. Om Puri is just okay. You have watched him several times performing in this manner.
Script : There is nothing new in the script. The writers could not create any powerful character. Most of its characters are confusing. They do not have any defined character. The plot is dull and irritating. Dialogues are not impressive; in fact, some dialogues such as, 'jo nahate nahate pishaap kare use kaise pakroge' are irritating. The writers have tried to irritate you and give you headache instead of entertaining and making you laugh. Screenplay also has many loopholes and you are left with many questions unanswered!
Music : Sajid and Wajid are the music directors of this film. But they do not do anything new. The songs appear as if you have already heard such tunes in the past. Some songs can make their presence only in the theatres and the moment you go out, the music also goes out of your mind. Nothing noteworthy to remember or the music is not so pleasing that you feel like listening to it again and again. However, a few songs are average. This duo music directors have made several singers to sing such as Shadaab Faridi, Monali Thakur, Mamta Sharma, Sarosh Sami, Keerthi Sagathia, Sugandha Mishra, Babul Supriyo, Bela Shende, Ujjaini and Abhilasha Chellam but they hardly impress you. Background score is okay.
Choreography : The songs have been choreographed by Pony Verma and Prasanna and their choreography is above average.
Other Technical Aspects : Editing is okay. Its DOP R. Ganesh has done good job.
Direction : Even though it has been directed by Priyadarshan, who is known as Comedy King, he fails to make you laugh or even entertain. Of course he has succeeded in making you laugh, but in parts. Most of the times, he has irritated you in the name of comedy by presenting cheap comedy. He failed also because of the weak script. None of his characters are well established. It seems that instead of giving you a good script his whole attention was in presenting cheap gags for you!
Plus Points : Except a few laughing moments (which you get in most of the films) you hardly get anything which could be said as its plus points.
Minus Points : Irritating Characters; Shreyas's Poor Performance; Poor Script
Overall Review : The director wanted to make you laugh but he thought that you don't have brains. This is the reason he didn't answer most of the queries. Shreyas Talpade's character is very weak. The way the film begins (when you come to know that the girlfriend of one has married to another without proper reason) you get irritated. It clearly appears that this film has been made to make you laugh at gun point.
Verdict : It is not an entertaining and fully comical film. In fact, in the name of comedy, it is a boring mess. It is not the hilarious film you were looking for!
