Karthik Calling Karthik is an Hindi film produced by Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidwani under the banner, Magic Beans Excel Entertainment. Its writer & director is Vijay Lalwani. Farahan Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Ram Kapoor, Shefali Shah are some of its casts who need to be mentioned. This film released with Teen Patti and though this film is not excellent, it can be said to be better than Teen Patti.

Karthik Calling Karthik is a love story of Farahan and Deepika Padukone with many elements of suspense. But wait! This suspense is not similar to suspense which you find in murder mystery or crime related suspense films. The suspense here you will get is different but it will keep you hooked for sometime.

Karthik (Farhan Akhtar) is an introvert; a shy guy; a cool young man. He works in an office but is ignored by most of them. His boss (Ram Kapoor) is also not good towards him; behaves with him in ill tempered manner. Karthik over works yet he is not appreciated. He seems to be a loser.

In his office also works a young, beautiful and hot girl Deepika towards whom Karthik is attracted. He keeps himself writing her mails but is unable to express and talk to his feelings to her directly due to the fear of rejection. He doesn't find confidence to express his love towards her. One biggest reason can be said that Deepika doesn't notice him. A man, whom a girl doesn't even care about or notice; how can he expect her to love him. Though he pays attention to everyone; hardly anyone notices him.

A day comes when his boss fires him out of his office. He finds himself very hurting and jobless. He has neither any friends nor any girlfriend. He loses interest in his life and finally decides to end his life.

There is lot of thrill and suspense when he wants to commit suicide. No one knows how he will be saved. It remains suspense for everyone what would prevent him from committing suicide.  It is a phone call that saves Karthik from ending his life. Just like any audience of the film, Karthik too is surprised to hear his own voice at the other end of the phone. Even audience is puzzled to hear Karthik's voice on the other end. No one gets any idea who was the saver in Karhik's own voice and what did he want.

Karthik was speaking to a caller whom he didn't know and had never spoken to him in any manner. The caller at the other end introduces himself to be Karthik. He claims that he had arrived in his life to change his life. Karthik, after showing some surprise and mixed reactions, accepts the phone in his life.

Though it is a loophole of the film how did the caller know that Karthik was going to commit suicide. But you have to ignore some loopholes like this because film makers take some filmy liberties; without which a film can't be made in an interesting way.

Well, here onwards the caller becomes Karthik's saver and a guide. He inspires him to live like a bold man and guides him whenever he needs it. The caller gives him tips to handle his ill tempered and rude boss and also he trains him how he could beat off his competitors. Most importantly he is trained how to get the girl (Deepika Padukone) he wanted.

Well, apart from Karthik's acts now onwards, it keeps the audience hooked to know who the caller was and why was he doing so.

Deepika Padukone looks are very beautiful and is one of the biggest attraction of this film. Most of her films have worked due to her beauty and natural smile and acting. However, some of her films flopped too due to poor script.

Farhan Akhtar has too acted in a natural way and has totally justified the role. If he learns dancing too, which is also the present day requirement of stars of Hindi cinema, he can go miles ahead. Even if he doesn't sing, his acting career can reach good height.

Online chemistry of Farhan and Deepika, has worked and would be liked by the audiences.

The cinematography by Sanu Verghese is excellent. Art direction has done good job. Sets are beautiful.

But script part is weak in many aspects which will harm the business of the film. The dialogues are so and so and screenplay is not in smooth pace.

Though the first half moves on with good speed second half gets too slow & dull. It can be well understood that the writer has stretched the script unnecessarily to make it a full length movie.

The writer has tried to deepen the mystery by engulfing Karthik, Deepika Padukone and the psychiatrist in the storm. The writer has once again sent Karthik's life upside down by sending him back to square one, due to which the hell breaks. Instead of sending the graph of the film high by this point, it seems going down which is the drawback of the film. The writer should have worked on the script in a better way.

Though the writer-director Vijay Lalwani has brought forward a good and new concept for film rather than going into traditional story, the length stretched unnecessarily will work as the drawback of the film which will make you tired and bored. So, all their efforts such as good story, good acting, good direction, good sets and cinematography will be hardly of any use.

Regarding script, end is not suitable. When the pieces fall together, you don't understand why you were watching the film or you might want to know what the point was after all.

Something you may not digest about the film that in an office where Farhan & Deepika worked for four years and Farhan went unnoticed by Deepika, the same girl slowly goes on falling in love with him. If the writer had to make both of them love each other, he should have introduced Deepika new in the office. But what has been shown in the film is not convincing.

However the writer has tried to justify the introvert nature of Farhan why he don't have confidence. The reason given behind it is that Farhan's brother had died when they were kids but due to some reasons Farhan holds himself responsible for his brother's death. His brother's memory haunts him repeatedly.

Some jokes which you might enjoy for the first time, you will find it irritating when you find them being repeated. Jokes shouldn't be repeated. Like the joke of offering drink and asking to take advantage of his being drunk. You also have seen this in promos so you won't find it fresh in the film. Promos should be made in different way.

Lyrics are written by Farahan's father Javed Akhtar, which are as good as other works of Javed Akhtar.

Music of the film by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is okay.

Though a bit lengthy and boring in the second half, it is not a bad film. So you can go to watch it if you want to see extraordinary acting of Farhan and the beauty of Deepika.
