Rahul is a handsome youngster with a rebellious streak. He has been brought up in New Zealand, and now studies in a college. In the same college is a beautiful and hard-to-get girl Esha . Being a go-getter Rahul makes his advances towards Esha. He, along with his college friends, plays pranks on Esha to attract her attention. Esha is also an extrovert who is unimpressed by Rahul's pranks. She, however, is carried by his "who-cares' attitude and his sense of humor. It doesn't take Rahul very long to befriend Esha. And their friendship soon blossoms into love. Although Esha is a modern girl, she still retains many Indian values. It's because she has been brought up in a close-knit family by her parents (Raj Babbar and Neena Kulkarni). She believes in the institution of marriage. Rahul, on the other hand, is pampered young man who has often seen petty domestic arguments at home between his father (Rajesh Khanna) and mother (Smita Jayakar). Seeing his parents quarrel over trivialities Rahul becomes convinced of the futility of marriage. He believes that a relationship doesn't necessarily have to end in marriage.
