One line Review: Exceptional performance by the leads, strong plot and execution of the concept.
Positive Points: The suspense tale witnesses brilliant performance by Irrfan Khan. Nishikant Kamat has managed to keep up the intensity of the drama intact throughout the film. The story ensures keeping the audiences hooked and involved in the plot. The smooth narration earns an extra point.
Negative Points: There are a few dry moments in the film and, few scenes are dragged to length. Also, the plot is not entirely a fresh one.
Plot: A common man Nirmal Kumar’s (Irrfan Khan) life turns upside down when his seven year old son, Apurva Kumar dies in a bridge collapse. In his vulnerability, Nirmal decides to take revenge against the people who were involved in the bridge mishap. Going against the system, Nirmal kidnaps the eight year old son of the Home Minister.
For this high profile case, Home Minister (Tushar Dalvi) assigns the responsibility to Officer Nachiket Verma (Jimmy Shergill). Soon begins the investigation and several chapters unfold. Nirmal Kumar wants to drag all the corrupt officials out in public and expose their evil acts. Will he be successful in this move or will he get caught by Nachiket’s strong team.
Direction and other Technical Aspects: Director Nishikant Kamat has done a justifiable task with the direction and execution of the storyline. The execution and narration are apt and, the development of a few scenes especially the ones with Irrfan and the kidnapped kid have turned out well. All the emotions are captured beautifully, the camera work is good. The dialogues are impactful. The intensity of the film is praise worthy and the nail biting thriller wins brownie points for its climax.
Performances: Irrfan Khan has once again brought his ‘A’ game with this film. His impeccable performance, expressions, and dialogue delivery keeps you hooked throughout and makes the story believable.
Vishesh Bansal who essays the role of Home Minister’s son does a commendable job. His special bond with Irrfan is pleasant to watch.
Jimmy Shergill as the tough cop performs his part impressively. He manages to pull off the role with perfection.
All the supporting actors including Tushar Dalvi and Nitesh Pandey among others managed to do a good job with their performance.
Music: The background score is apt and goes in favour of the movie, ideally supporting the visuals. The songs are good.
Final Verdict: Watch the film if you like edge of the seat thrillers. Irrfan Khan has nailed it once again with his mind boggling performance, the film is a must watch for all the Irrfan fans! For its overall impact, Madaari earns 3 stars!
