Mausam Review

MAUSAM is a Hindi film which was slated to release earlier but due to some controversy it released on 23rd September, 2011. It has been directed by Pankaj Kapur and produced by Sheetal Vinod Talwar under the banner of Eros International Media Ltd and Religare Vistaar Entertainment.

Story : The movie revolves around Harinder Singh also known as Harry in the film (played by Shahid Kapoor) who is waiting in his village for a letter to join Indian Air Force. Meanwhile things take many turns and there occur riot in Kashmir due to which a Muslim-Kashmiri girl Ayat takes shelter in his village. Harry falls in love with her and after that he joins Indian Air Force.

One day Harinder goes to meet Ayat but he is greeted with a big lock on the door of his lover. He has no inkling about the whereabouts of his lover. Thereafter one after another riot-terror goes on striking India & the world such as Ayodhya dispute, Blasts in Mumbai, Gujarat riots etc.

Do the both lovers finally meet each other and get married is what the film tries to show you in the rest of the film.

Performance :

Shaid Kapoor is excellent in his role. In fact he it is one of his best works. Sonam Kapoor is average.

Supriya Pathak is very good in her role. Anupam Khar is too good. Rest actors have justified their roles.

Script : Script of the film is weak and has many loopholes. It will be very difficult for this film to gain revenue due to the weak script. At a time you may think that was this film made because once its director Pankaj Kapur too had got married to a Muslim girl Neelima Azim!

Music : Music by Pritam is average!

Choreography : Ahmad Khan has done its choreography which is according to the subject of the film.

Camerawork done by Binod Pradhan is excellent. Some scenes of Air Force fighter planes have been captured very well.

Direction : This is the first film of Pankaj Kapur who has earlier done acting in various hit films and serials. He had also directed serials in the past such as Mohandas B.A.L.L.B which didn't do well. However, he has directed this film in a well manner and has done what the script demanded. His takings are excellent and no one can say that it could be his debut film as a director. However due to the poor script, he could not keep the film hooked.

Conclusion : It is different in other respects but love story has not been presented well. It may not attract the masses and would not earn as much revenue as much it is expected even though it has been promoted a lot!

Verdict : Not a must watch film. A film full of confusion! Its better you watch it when released on DVD or satellite.
