NOT A LOVE STORY is a Hindi feature film directed by Ram Gopal Varma. At first sight it appears to be made on the true incident of Neeraj Grover murder case but it is not so. Its director has made a different film in which he has tried to justify everyone's act.

Story : Anusha Chawala (Mahi Gill) is an aspiring actress who leaves her home town Chandigarh and lands up in Mumbai to make a career in Hindi film industry. But she keeps struggling for a role which she doesn't get. After some time she meets a man Ashish Bhatnagar (Ajay Gehi) who takes interest in her due to other reasons. He indirectly wants her to compromise to get a good place in the film industry. She could have denied his proposal but she too wants to use him as a ladder to move up. So she gets into a deep relationship with him. On the contrary she forgets that she has left behind her lover Robin in Chandigarh.

She doesn't inform her existing lover Robin (Deepak Dobriyal) that to get her ambition fulfilled, she had started using someone. But one day her lover reaches her flat in Mumbai and catches her with the man red handed. Thereafter, he brutally kills Ashish Bhatnagar. Thereafter he, with the help of his girlfriend, chops the dead body into pieces and gets rid of the proof of murder.

Are they punished in the way you would want is what makes the rest of the film.

Performance : The actors such as Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi have performed well.

Script : The script is written in favour of the girl.

Direction : Ram Gopal Varma has just picked up the true story and did what he thought could be right (or it could be the writer's fault) which is not right. He has presented the story in a different way which was not needed. He has tried to show you the glimpses of the female artist's underwear and skin to gather the masses. His takings are good but he is not the same director who had directed some good films in the past such as SHIVA, RANGEELA etc.

Conclusion : The director chose a subject which could be made in a very low budget and which would attract the masses due to its link with the much talked crime taken place in 2008 of Neeraj Grover. But the film misleads you and not is what had happened in Neeraj Grover case.

Minus Points : Skin exposure may be plus point for them who love watching such scenes on the screen whereas this point is minus point of the film for them who watch films with family. Another minus point of the film is – why the girl does not inform his lover that someone had offered him role instead of some favours from her. Though there are many people in the film industry who exploit freshers (girls) and ask sexual favours from them, girls should strictly refuse their offer. Why should they accept their offer and move ahead? This girl should not get any sympathy because she was not captured, she was not captivated and she was not forced to get into relationship with the victim. She accepted his offer because she wanted to make a position in the film industry. Why didn't she deny his offer or report it at once to her lover or police. But when she was caught, she created another story to gain sympathy.

Verdict : Does not portray true picture of the real crime. Not worth watching until you are eager to watch exposed skin of the lead artist.
