Pink Review

One line Review: With realistic setting and sequences, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink is a pragmatic take on societal mindset about modern day women.

Positive Points: The dark plot keeps you hooked throughout the movie. The presentation of the sequences and the performances of the actors are exceptional. Relatable storyline and gripping screenplay.

Negative Points: The narrative is sluggish yet the performances manage to keep the audience hooked. A few questionable issues and loops are left unaddressed.

Plot: Three independent working girls, Minal (Taapsee Pannu), Andrea (Andrea Tariang) and Falak Ali (Kirti Kulhari) stay together on a rental basis in Delhi and lead a normal life. On a night after attending a rock concert, these girls accepted a dinner invite by Rajveer (Angad Bedi) and his two friends. They head to a hotel where after a few drinks, the guys try to get over friendly and inappropriately touch them. Rajveer tries to assault Minal, and in an attempt to save herself, she hits him with a glass bottle that leaves him deeply wounded.

Rajveer comes from a political family and has powerful connections. Rajveer and his friends not only threatened the girls but also molested Minal to satisfy their male egos. They turned the lives of these girls into a nightmare. Minal and her friends file a police complaint but, it goes in vain due to Rajveer’s political connections. They seek help of eminent lawyer Deepak Saigal (Amitabh Bachchan) who is under medication. Will Mr. Saigal be able to prove the innocence of these girls in the court?

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Praiseworthy direction and excellent story telling by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. The screenplay is supremely engrossing leaving the viewers at the edge of their seats. Cinematography and editing is decent. The hard hitting dialogues by Ritesh Shah, enhance the level of the plot. The dialogues support the realistic setting and touch sensitive issues that are so very relevant in our society. The rules that the Indian society has formulated for girls in terms of their outlook and behaviour address serious issues that are prevalent today. Amitabh Bachchan’s dialogues during the court hearing scenes are an eye opener! The court room scenes are a must watch due to their presentation intensity and realistic approach. The mindsets and prejudices of people towards a liberal modern day woman are captured skilfully in the film.

Performances: There is a reason why people call Mr. Amitabh Bachchan a legendary actor. He delivers a more than perfect performance in the film. He feels every word and emote every expression.

Taapsee Pannu is apt for the role and pulls off the character extremely well. She has a strong hold on her performance and delivers a commendable job.

Kirti Kulhari as Falak Ali does a good job. Her court room performance is praiseworthy.

Andrea Tariang is also good in her part. She does justice to her role.

Angad Bedi is decent. His court room encounter with Big B is notable. All other supporting actors do fair justice to their part, positively supporting the narrative.

Music: The thriller genre does not support songs despite which the two songs that play at the backdrop and the back ground sound earn a good score.

Final Verdict: Pink renders a powerful, thought provoking message that indeed makes the film a must watch!
