Ragini MMS Review

RAGINI MMS is a Hindi film produced by daily soap queen Miss Ekta Kapoor which released on 13th May 2011.

Ekta Kapoor tasted very bitter results with her initial films such as KYONKI MAIN JHOOT NAHI BOLTA etc which flopped despite big star casts and big directors and crew members. Some how she made KYA KOOL HAIN HUM which contained some humor mixed with some double meaning scenes and dialogues. Somehow the film worked because there is a group of audience who likes to watch such films. This gave her encouragement to go ahead on the same track and make films containing sex.

She made a film LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA which once again did good business even though it had new star cast who were nothing in comparison to big start casts. This film succeeded because of its name and content and also because it was made in a very low budget. This inspired Ekta Kapoor to make movies on such themes.

Somehow she came to know about an MMS scandal which was very hot in news sometime back. The incident had occurred with a girl named Deepika.

Ekta was very much concerned about that girl and she had also got a plot. So she decided to make a film on this true incident and eventually she made a film titled as RAGINI MMS.

There was news that Deepika met Ekta through one of her friends where it was decided to convert the bitter incident into a feature film. Whether Ekta approached Deepika first or Deepika approached Ekta first is not the matter of importance; what matters is that Ekta planned to make film on that incident and Deepika was even entered into a contract with her.

Story : In this film the boy takes his girlfriend to a lonely farmhouse and tries to make sexual relationship with her. The girl is unaware of the fact that there are cameras fitted in the farmhouse just like BIGG BOSS reality show and her act was being recorded in the cameras in the form of blue film. Her boyfriend had planned to give the footage to one of the producers so that the footage could earn them huge price and the boy could get a role in movies.

But the boy did not know that some ghastly powers were also present in the farmhouse. It doesn't happen as the boy had expected but things happen what he has never dreamt. The film is a mixture of sex, betrayal and horror and greed.

Ghosts appear in different form and things change.

Performance : The actor Rajkummar Rao has performed his part well. So is Kainaz Motivala.

Background music is up to the mark and fits the scenario of the film.

Music : Music is good though there are no songs in the film.

Direction : Direction is okay and the director Pawan Kriplani has proved that he is not less than Ram Gopal Verma, Vikram Bhatt or Ramsay Brothers when it comes to the direction of horror films. Pawan Kripalani has good command to shoot adult content as well as horror sequences.

Plus Point: This film is based on true story of a girl who had become its victim. This would open teenage girls eyes and prevent them from trusting their boyfriend's to such extents.

Minus Point: There is a lot of skin exposure (even though it is based on true story). Some days back a film was made on true story in which a young girl was raped in the train. That doesn't mean that you should show or shoot the girl being raped. Without so much exposure the film RAGINI MMS could have opened teenagers' eyes and could have sent the same message but to attract mass audience so much exposure has been incorporated which the family would not like. It is just like any adult film which children or family would keep aloof. Think to what extent exposure was shot for the film which the Censor deleted. How vulgar the posters would be which was torn off by people!

Conclusion : This film contains message which is good and an eye opener but due to too much exposure it has turned to be a different kind of film. Hence people who like to watch such scenes would get motivated to watch this film. Otherwise people would get the same effect by knowing what had happened with the real Ragini i.e Deepika. The film could have been good if sex part could have been avoided. However, since sex makes money, this film may earn good revenues for Ekta so that she could be inspired to make another film of this kind in a row.

Verdict : Go for it without your family and children and if you know nothing about the true incident. Go for it only if you love watching sex and horror.
