Rivaaz Review

RIVAAZ (रिवाज़) is a Hindi feature film that released on 16th September, 2011 in India. It has been produced under the banner of Deeksha Screen Entertainment and Laurel Entertainment's.

Story : This is the story about a cruel custom still prevalent in a few parts of this country. Sati pratha (सती प्रथा) is gone (due to the efforts of Raja Ram Mohan Roy) but no one knows who will make effort to get rid of such cruel practice in the name of tradition.

In this film a village is shown where girls are treated as prostitutes even from her family members. In fact they are not just treated as prostitutes but they are forced in this profession in the name of old tradition which literally means RIVAAZ (रिवाज़) in Hindi.

The girls are allowed to attain their adulthood and one they become adult their family members as well whole village celebrates this occasion because thereafter that girl is made prostitute by their family members. Rich people, politicians etc. reach there and pay hefty amounts to spend a night with that girl. The girl's father, brother etc. receive the money and allow other people to have sex with that girl.

This cruel night comes into that girl's life till no one comes to pay for her in exchange of sleeping with her. Thereafter she is married to some middle aged man of that village.

But things change when a city boy (Manoj Bidwai) happens to visit that village. He saws a girl named Bela and both of them fall in love and want to get married. But this girl is yet to go under the tradition of becoming a prostitute.

If they marry, very cruel punishment they are going to get from the villagers. So what happens to them? Is she made a prostitute? Does the boy marry her? These are the questions which are answered in the rest of the film.

Performance : Dipti Naval has performed very well. In fact all the artists, especially the girls, have justifies their roles. Alok Nath, Rajendra Gupta, Mushtaq Khan have done very well.

Script : Script of the film is according to the requirement. It raises burning questions.

Music : Such films do no need hi-fi music.

Direction : It is average and the director Ashok Nanda has successfully tried to put forth an issue and a question in front of the society.

Verdict : This is an issue based film which may not attract masses but is an eye opener and should be watched and should be thought what should be done to eradicate this evil practice from this country.
