Sonali Cable Review

Rating: 2.5/5

One-line Review: Sonali's fearless broadband battle to survive her local business in the big corporate world

Positive Points: Striking message to deliver, Ali Fazal and Rhea Chakraborty's sizzling chemistry

Negative Points: Lose premise, Rhea Chakraborty's forceful Marathi dialect

Plot: Mumbaichi Mulgi Sonali Tandel (Rhea Chakraborty) runs a local internet broadband service, with the help of her small yet super-fantastic 'internet boys' team and her US returned-childhood love Raghu (Ali Fazal). Right from police officials to the local customers have word of praises of her.

A twist in tale occurs when a greedy business tycoon Waghela (Anupam Kher) makes his way to obtain monopoly in broadband service market. His officials diminish all the local broadband providers in Mumbai, but they find it hard to uproot stubborn Sonali from her area.

Fearless Sonali puts her love, life and survival on stake to protect "Sonali Cable" from the evil-eyes of Waghela and his impolite officials. How long her local business will survive in front of Waghela's giant multinational company, Shining Inc. makes the film further watchable.

Direction and other technical aspects: Director Charudutt Acharya has himself penned the script, which was once selected for Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2012. Though, he tried to deliver a good concept, he fails to generate the vibrancy and spirit of Mumbai city on screen.

Cinematographer Sudhir Palsane has done an average job. He had an opportunity of capturing Mumbai's grand Ganesh Visarjan in one of the sequence, yet he didn't made optimum use of it.

Performances: Rhea Chakraborty makes an effort to get into the skin of a Maharashtrian girl, by wearing "bindis" and "navari" saree. Also, she mouthed some Marathi slangs, which sadly sounded forceful when uttered by her. Ali Fazal plays somewhat similar role of what he did in 'Bobby Jasoos'. Yet, his blossoming chemistry with Rhea was a treat to watch.

Smita Jaykar and Anupam Kher gave their noteworthy performance in their respective roles. Slow-motion dancer Raghav Juyal got notice in the supporting role of his debut film.

Music: Song that runs at back of your mind after watching 'Sonali Cable' is "Ek Mulaqat" sung by Jubin Nautiyal. "Ganu Rocks" is the foot-tapping song, which will surely find its way in Ganesh Visarjan, henceforth. "Chenti Chenti Bang Bang" is rightly meant to flaunt the hip-hop moves. Other songs go unnoticed in film's 120 minutes long run.

Final Verdict: Charudutt Acharya had a good concept to deliver, but the lose connectivity and improper premise of film 'Sonali Cable' fetches him an average score.
