In the race of commercial movies and content-driven cinema, the biopics have emerged as a complete winner in Bollywood. In the last couple of years, Hindi cinema has witnessed some great and successful biopics. Though making biopics might have become a trend in Bollywood, very few such movies are made on women. But the scenario might change soon as many biopics on women, including Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and a biopics on sportswomen Saina Nehwal and PT Usha are in the works. The latest addition to the list might be a biopic on Gunjan Saxena. Reportedly, Dharma Productions is set to produce a biopic on the 1999 Kargil war hero Gunjan Saxena. Saxena was India’s first woman combat aviator.
For those who don’t know, Saxena is among the few women pilots in the IAF. She guided her helicopter, dodging artillery shells through the steep valleys of Kargil as a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force. She is the first ever woman lady pilot of Indian Air Force who proved her mettle in Operation Vijay and is in IAF history books as the Kargil girl. The rights of the biopic have been acquired by Karan Johar ’s Dharma Productions and the film is expected to go on floors next year hopefully. The director and the star cast have not been decided yet.
