Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s love story, after 44 years of marriage!

In Bollywood, it's common to see actors getting linked with their co-actors, having an affair, some are even graduated to marriage, while some face the divorce. But standing tall to all the hardships, here’s Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan celebrating their 44th anniversary, today.

On June 3, 1973, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri took marital vows. They were reigning stars of that time, yet they opted for a low profile marriage. Recollecting those days, Big B has shared a memory on his blog, "and as I set out from 'Mangal' a rented house of mine in JVPD scheme, 7th Road .. in my newly acquired second hand Pontiac Sports, 2 door, with Ma and Babuji with me .. my driver Nagesh, now passed away, insisting on driving me to an apartment of Jaya's family friend at Malabar Hill .. on the 3rd of June 1973, a few drops of rain began to fall .. our neighbour ran out of their house and excitedly screamed to us .. 'hurry to the wedding, its raining, a good omen. ...Its been 44 years since .."

Taking a short recap of their love story, Amitabh and Jaya met each other for the first time at Pune Film Institute. When she was already a superstar and he was a struggling actor. It was not "love at first sight" for them. It was a formal meeting.

Later, Amitabh saw Jaya’s picture on the cover of a magazine and he started admiring her. She was personally introduced to him by late filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who starred them together in film Guddi. Next, they featured in film Ek Nazar that’s when they started dating.

After a couple of years, when Big B made it big with Zanjeer, he proposed Jaya for marriage and she instantly replied, YES! Their marriage preparations happened secretly and it was much later when world came to know about their marriage.

Jaya Bachchan is the perfect example of an independent woman, who has a mind of her own. Be it the rumors of her husband’s affair with Rekha or leaving her illustrious career at the peak, she took her decisions wisely on her own.

After 44 years of marriage, Amitabh and Jaya are enjoying their togetherness with their extended family.
