Anurag Basu explains why biopic on Kishore Kumar would take time to go on the floor!

After the failure of his last venture Jagga Jasoos and an online rift with veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, director Anurag Basu has been working on the script for a biopic on late legendary singer Kishore Kumar for quite a long time. And as anyone would guess, Ranbir Kapoor is finalized to play Kishore Kumar in the biopic! Indeed portraying a multitalented actor, director, producer and a legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar with the same energy on screen is a task itself and Ranbir Kapoor would be the right match for the role! However, Anurag also cleared that there’s time before he can start shooting the film!

While in a conversation, Anurag Basu said, ‘Though the script is ready, we can’t just announce that we’re doing the film. It needs to be fool proof... There are certain legalities. We need permission and input from people associated with Kishore Kumar and mentioned in the film or else during the making or after the film releases, many might raise objections.

Further explaining the complications before starting the production of the biopic, Anurag says ‘So far, only Ranbir and I are confirmed, but Ranbir is busy with biopic on Sanjay Dutt now, and then he will move on to Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon! The overall situation is dicey because if Ranbir says that “Dada I will do the film in 2019” and Kishore Kumar’s family wants me to do it now, then we’ll have to work things out accordingly.”

Anurag did express his gratitude to the Kishore Kumar family and the support they showed so far. He says, ‘I’m thankful to the family for being supportive. They want me to do the film even after so much delay!’ His last film Jagga Jasoos received a mixed review from the audience but eventually failed to make the desired impact on the box office.
