Veteran lyricist and script writer Javed Akhtar has strongly expressed his views against the changing focus of media and cinema in the last few decades.
He criticized the media and cinema for being 'insensitive' towards paying attention to the difficulties of the common man. He felt sad to note that this insensitivity was not only limited to the media and cinema but also extended till politics and other spheres. He observed that the Hindi film industry had undergone a 360 degree change from the time he entered the business around late 60's. Producers earlier used to concentrate on scripts targeting the common people from small towns. They were sure that if the film succeeded in small towns, it was bound to be a hit. The hero was a normal working man in those days but now he is born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He also noticed that the songs used to be an inseparable part of the scripts of movies. During those times much attention was paid to the filming and sequencing of songs and was evident in the works of movie makers like Bimal Roy, Raj Kapoor , Vijay Anand and Guru Dutt .
