As most of the people in the industry, so be it television or film, Ekta Kapoor is one woman you shouldn’t mess up with! As she has a certain level of dignified aura which also speaks for what she believes in. Hence most of her production ventures became a talk of the town, one of which is Lipstick Under My Burkha . The lady has recently been questioned by major dailies of her stand on Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), as the film was stuck in for 6 months despite being ready to release. And she made it clear!
She says, “There is no problem with CBFC, my problem is with society, which at some point speaks about the same issue in its own ways. And about five to ten such incidents happen with a girl in a day where, being a woman, she has to prove herself a little harder!” And speaking more about the middle finger representation with lipstick and what were they trying to say, she clarified, “The middle finger is not for the CBFC but pointed towards the patriarchal society that does not let us come out, which compels us to suppress our voice. That is why this issue is not just CBFC’s, this issue is about ideology, and it’s about patriarchy.”
The Lipstick Under My Burkha is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha Productions and features and ensemble cast of Konkona Sen Sharma , Ratna Pathak , Aahana Kumrah , Plabita Borthakur . Despite the film being about women’s sexuality and the freedom in this country, but it took an ugly turn at the editing table of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and now it is being released with an A certificate on 21st July.
