It is a moment of pride for our country that Nirmala Sitharaman is appointed as the first full-time defence minister. Sitharaman is the second woman in India to serve as the defence minister after Indira Gandhi. Actress Juhi Chawla took up the responsibility to essay the role of a female defence minister in Ekta Kapoor ’s web series The Test Case featured on the digital platform Alt Balaji. Although she was hesitant a bit earlier, she is proud of it today! Actress Nimrat Kaur is also a part of the series where she essays an Army officer.
In a media interaction, Juhi Chawla expressed her joy saying, “I can't believe it has really happened. It's a matter of pride for all of us." She further added about her role saying, “When Nagesh [Kukunoor, former director of the show] approached me, I was excited as I haven't attempted such a character earlier. But, I was apprehensive too."
"I asked Elahe Hiptoola [co-producer] if the audience would take the idea of a woman defence minister on the show seriously. She told me it is futuristic. When I was shooting for it six months back, I thought something like this wouldn't happen in our country. But, I'm so glad it did," added the actress.
