Legendary Ghazal Singer Mehdi Hassan Laid to Rest

The legendary Ghazal Maestro had breathed his last on Wednesday. 84 year old Hassan was suffering from multiple ailments and eventually died due to multiple organ failure.

The legendary Ghazal Maestro had breathed his last on Wednesday. 84 year old Hassan was suffering from multiple ailments and eventually died due to multiple organ failure. As soon as the death of the Indian-born ghazal singer reached his fans and friends, condolences started coming from every corner of the globe. Mehdi Hassan is survived by 9 sons and 5 daughters.

The B-town celebrities such as Lata Mangeshkar , Amitabh Bachchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Anupam Kher , etc. mourned the death of Mehdi Hassan.

Mehdi Hassan was laid to rest yesterday at the Shah Muhammad Shah graveyard in Karachi. Hundreds of Hassan's fans attended his funeral, who bid a tearful farewell. Hassan's family members, friends, singers, social workers, politicians, actors and many fans attended his last rites, which was organized and supervised by the volunteers of the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (the welfare wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement).

After the burial, the film star Nadeem said, "It was an honour for me that I picturised many songs sung by Mehdi sahib. As a matter of fact, it was him who drove my career in the forward direction. He might be gone but his songs and ghazals will remain in our hearts forever."

"After Faiz Ahmed Faiz , Sadequain and Noor Jehan , Mehdi sahib was one person who got the fame he deserved during his lifetime. Not many people can maintain the fame they acquire, but he did, till his last breath", said lyricist and scriptwriter Anwar Maqsood .
