It seems like Bollywood has indeed run out of ideas to create original stories. After countless remakes, biopics and sequels, the latest we hear that a remake to the blockbuster film Agni Sakshi is being planned. Agni Sakshi , which hit the cinema screens in 1996, was one of the biggest successful films of the year, featuring Manisha Koirala , Nana Patekar and Jackie Shroff in lead roles. Nana Patekar received an overwhelming response for his performance in the movie and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1997.
Noted director Partho Ghosh , who directed the original film, is said to be remaking it for the younger generation that has probably not seen it as yet. With the remake, he will be making his comeback to movies. According to our sources, all the pre-production work and planning for the movie are over and the project has been tentatively titled as Agni Sakshi 2.
Some insiders also reveal that the director had approached actor Irrfan Khan for the character originally played by Nana Patekar . The actor had accepted the offer with the movie set to begin in April. However, with the sudden reports of his illness, the plans might fall through.
“Irrfan already has many projects in his kitty. With his precipitous bad health, it will be tough for him to complete his work. Though he did give his dates, it is uncertain now if he will finally do the remake or not,” another source reveals.
