Ever since Ranveer Singh came out of the Padmaavat zone, he has immersed himself in Zoya Akhtar ’s Gully Boy . The movie is about the underground rappers of Mumbai slums and it is also very close to the actor’s heart. Ranveer has been shooting for this in the real-life locations of Dharavi. He met a number of rappers; he practiced with them and took rapping lessons from them. As the project is close to him, he says one must listen what these young rappers have been writing.
The actor said to a leading daily, "They have started a music scene that’s so unique. It’s in Bambaiyya language which is the most incredible thing. You have to read sometimes what these kids are writing."
“They are in their early 20s and they write social commentary about what’s wrong in the system and make such strong observations and comments on the state of affairs. So, I strongly feel for them and I want to do what I can to give a platform to these amazing musical talents. Gully Boy is a story which I really want to tell along with Zoya. You will be quite amazed to hear its music," he concluded.
The movie focuses mainly on 4 rappers and apart from Ranveer; Gully Boy also stars Alia Bhatt , Kalki Koechlin and Vijay Varma . Made under the banner of Excel Entertainment, the movie is scheduled to release on 14th February 2019.
