Uber cool Ranveer Singh , who wrapped up his period film Padmavati a couple of days back, is all set to start work on his next film which celebrates India’s first ever World Cup victory in the year of 1983. At an event on Wednesday, the actor and the makers made an official announcement about the film and also revealed many things related to the upcoming project titled 83 . For the uninitiated, Ranveer Singh is playing the role of Kapil Dev who, under his captainship, helped Indian win the coveted cup in a match against West Indies in the finals at Lords.
One thing which is important to note here is that 83 will not be a biopic on Kapil Dev as earlier reported in media. The film will chronicle the victory of the 1983 World Cup and Ranveer will essay Kapil Dev’s role in it. Ranveer recently met all the heroes of 1983 World Cup and interacted with them for hours on end.
83 is being helmed by Kabir Khan who is mostly known for making the action-oriented film. Khan says he couldn’t imagine anyone else other than Ranveer to play Kapil Dev in the movie. “It’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalizing the script.”
To be produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Vibri Media and founder of CCL, along with Phantom Films, 83 is expected to mount floors next year.
