Actors, despite portraying hundreds of diverse characters on screen, generally remain chary when it comes to portraying an LGBTQ character on celluloid. But seasoned actor Shakti Kapoor has proved that he has no such inhibitions. As per the latest updates from sources, Shakti Kapoor is set to play a transgender character in his upcoming film, Raktdhar , which is a surprise for everyone. We’ve seen Shakti Kapoor playing either negative roles or roles with comedic flair. But his next film will be different. It will revolve around love, politics, and also revenge and the need of the hour to change the perspective towards transgender living in Indian society.
Speaking about his role, “I believe even small things can bring about a change. And Raktdhar isn't a big- budget film, but still, we are sure people will understand and accept the message that we are trying to give. I hope people will change their perspective and look at transgenders with equality.
Adding more to the point, “Through this film, we are trying to break the centuries-old tradition that does not allow post-death rituals for transgenders, and irrespective of their religion, are buried and not cremated. They were even deprived of their right to a dignified end and we are trying to make sure that this does not happen any longer. If we manage to make this difference in society, then we will believe Raktdhar is a success.”
Indeed, it is one of the daunting roles he has been signed in for and it would be interesting to see Shakti Kapoor in such pivotal role! Raktdhar is directed by Ajit Verma for the banner of Chitra Films. Besides, Shakti Kapoor , the cast includes Mukesh Rishi , Shahbaaz Khan , Ehsaan Khan , Deepshikha Nagpal , Manish Khanna , Jimmy Sharma and Sanchita Banerjee. The film is scheduled to be released on 6th October!
