Marathi mulgi Sonali Bendre Behl is all set to become the face of the revival of Paithanis of Maharashtra state, as per the report. The actress is proud and honoured to endorse the antique traditional weave. She feels a lot about the dying arts of handloom in Maharashtra and desires to bring the weavers’ work in the light.
The antique technique of tapestry is used for making Paithani in which myriad threads of diverse colours are weaved together along with gold and silver threads for crafting a fabulous piece of silk. The precious gold and silver metal threads along with cotton or natural silk come together to design royal attire, that’s Paithani.
Sonali Bendre Behl revealed her love for Paithani sarees by saying “I do like wearing Paithani Sarees as I find them graceful. I have a collection from my mother and my mother-in-law. I would say my favorites are live chiffons as they are light, can be dressed up with jewellery etc, for day as well as night functions. I can literally live in them. The reason for me to be associated with it is that Paithani reminds me of my mother and her mother, aunts. In Maharashtrian households your wedding trousseau is not complete without a Paithani. Also its weave motifs and colours are so rich that it has been my fascination from the time I was a little girl,”
