A few days back, the CBFC finally called a panel of historians from Jaipur to certify Sanjay Leela Bhansali ’s ‘Padmavati’. CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi and the panel members gave the final verdict on the film and changed its title to ‘ Padmavat ’. It was reported that after certification and verification, the CBFC asked the makers for a total of 26 cuts, but is it really true? Talking to Zee Media, Joshi said that the joint decision of members doesn’t demand 26 cuts but only five modifications. The decision came after an examining committee meeting by CBFC which was held on December 28, 2017. CBFC head Prasoon Joshi said, “We have asked the filmmakers to change the disclaimer to one that does not claim historical accuracy; modify the incorrect/misleading reference to historical places; add a disclaimer which states that the film in no manner subscribes or glorifies the practice of Sati.”
Joshi further said that the along with the title, they (makers) have to modify the song ‘Ghoomar’ as well. He said, “This was an unprecedented and tough situation. I am glad that following a balanced approach we resolved the task at hand in a pragmatic and positive manner. We have also asked the makers to change the title from Padmavati to ‘Padmavat’ as the filmmakers have attributed their material/creative source to the fictional poem Padmavat and not history.”
As we already know, Bhansali’s ‘ Padmavat ’ that stars Deepika Padukone , Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as the leads, has been pushed to an indefinite time period, the new release date will be announced soon.
