The talented filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt went all praise for Srijit Mukherjee's Bengali venture 'Rajkahini'. Bhatt decided to adapt it into Hindi and he titled it as 'Begum Jaan'. Going by the report, Vidya Balan will play the character of brothel madam in 'Begum Jaan', which was played by Rituparna Sengupta in the original flick. It will be a feisty role.

Bhatt said "The re-worked adaptation will see Vidya in the most challenging role of her career. Srijit is by far the most talented filmmaker I've known," The film 'Begum Jaan' will revolve around the after effects of partition in Bengal in 1947. It narrates the tale of 11 women living in a brothel that gets divided by the new LOC, with some part of house in India and the other part in Pakistan.

Mahesh Bhatt said "Like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil in their classic films, and my daughter Alia Bhatt in ' Highway ', 'Rajkahini' has one of the greatest performances by a woman - Rituparna Sengupta . The premise is thrilling and moved me to the core. The Hindi film will feature eight actresses, but will be ruled by Vidya,"

Vidya Balan watched the original film and talking about it, she said "It's a powerful and moving film. Rituparna is wonderful and so is the rest of the cast. It's easily one of the most interesting scripts I have got so far".
