One line Review: Badrinath Ki Dulhania has an extremely entertaining narrative that renders a powerful message through its winning plot!

Positive Points: Out of the box storyline which is fresh, youthful and executed in a manner that it is supremely entertaining to watch. Excellent performances, and an extremely powerful plot. Hats off to the makers for handling such a sensitive subject appropriately while rendering a very important message.

Negative Points: Few scenes and situations portrayed are overly dramatic that turn too cliche and Bollywoodish stealing its realistic touch.

Plot: Badrinath Bansal ( Varun Dhawan ) belongs to one of Jhaasi’s richest families and, is a happy go lucky guy who is on a look out for a typical bride. In a wedding, his eyes lock with Vaidehi Trivedi ( Alia Bhatt ) and instantly falls for her. Vaidehi is a smart and ambitious girl with a kickass attitude. Varun proposes her for marriage and she rejects him in style. But, due to family pressure and several other reasons she ultimately says yes to his proposal but, only on a condition of getting her elder sister married first.

But after a major twist, Badri and Vaidehi fall apart. They meet again after some timespan in an odious circumstance. Will their love blossom again?

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Shashank Khaitan does a commendable job when it comes to direction. His understanding human emotions and its portrayal onscreen is brilliant. The way the entire story takes shape is smooth and likable. It scores full marks for entertainment which is a major aspect for any successful film. It not only keeps the audience hooked but also happy, rendering lovable doses of laughter every now and then. Despite a few loopholes and clichéd bollywoodish scenes, the film is a win due to the strong message that it conveys. The dialogues and the narrative are written beautifully.

Cinematography and camera work are good. Gorgeous locales of Kota, Jhaasi and Singapore are captured aptly enhancing the beauty of the movie. The message of dowry and women empowerment and independence is rightly placed. Overall the film is very impactful.

Performances: Alia Bhatt has a powerful role in the film and her able shoulders readily pull it off. She is gorgeous and extremely convincing as Vaidehi. Her acting skills, her dialect, her way of expressing emotions flows naturally and effortlessly.

Varun Dhawan is one gem of an actor and whichever role he touches turns it into gold. With such an ease, he pulls of the comic part. His comic timing is on point. His portrayal of pain, anger and suffering in love is commendable.

Sahil Vaid as Badri’s best friend Somdev is an entertaining character. His comic scenes with Badri are worth watching.

Supporting actors Yash Sinha and Shweta Basu perform their parts appreciably. All other supporting actors pull off their parts justifiably aiding the story to move ahead slickly.

Music: All the songs are lovable and already a huge hit amongst the viewers and music lovers. Tamma Tamma, Ashiq Surrender Hua, the love song Humsafar and the last title track are a treat!

Final Verdict: Badrinath Ki Dulhania is a perfect weekend treat for all the Bollywood lovers. It is a desi rom-com with a powerful message wrapped beautifully and presented to the viewers in a golden wrapper!
