Behen Hogi Teri Review: Light-hearted and extremely jejune, the rom-com makes you laugh and torments you all at once!

Behen Hogi Teri Review: Behen Hogi Teri is a light-hearted comedy drama topped with bits of romance that features loads of madness, chaos, and confusion.

One line Review: The light hearted rom-com features some utterly jejune sequences but manages to make you laugh at recurring intervals.

Positive Points: The comic bits are fun to watch with Rajkummar Rao and Herry Tangri ’s praise worthy performances.

Negative Points: A half backed love-story with no strong plot, topped with some utterly nonsensical and immature sequences.

Plot: Gattu ( Rajkummar Rao ) a typical good-for-nothing guy who lacks common sense, is below average in studies, has no potential income, falls in love with his neighbour Binni ( Shruti Haasan ). He has been adoring her since childhood but could not express his feeling because of his tameness. Binni on the other hand is a beautiful and free-spirited girl. They live in a society where all the females are to be considered mother or sister figures by the men and young boys! This concept of ‘mohaulle ki ladkiyan behen hoti hai’ does not go down well with Gattu as he has a big-time crush on Binni. He somehow proposes her and after a few ‘nakhras’ she accepts his proposal and then begins their courtship.

Light-hearted and extremely jejune, the rom-com makes you laugh and torments you all at once!

Twist in the story begins when Gattu’s father sees Binni with Gattu’s best friend Bhura ( Herry Tangri ) and assumes that they have an affair. Soon, Gattu’s father confronts this news to Binni’s family and then it further gets spread to the whole of the society. Meanwhile, Binni’s brother has finalised her marriage with a French dude Rahul ( Gautam Gulati ). All this drama and madness goes to a different level when Bhura’s father ( Gulshan Grover ) enters the scene making it even more comical and chaotic! Will Gattu break his brotherly image and confess his love for Binni in front of the society? Reveals the climax!

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Director Ajay K Pannalal does an average job with the execution and direction. The storyline does not manage to capture the viewers attention and is not gripping. However, the comic elements work well. It is a light-hearted comedy drama that does not make sense at several occasions! The story and the plot could have been strengthened. Spineless guys like Gattu and the silly societal norms where a girl is still not allowed to be seen with a guy, are the culprits tampering our growth as humans. The climax is extremely predictable. The dialogues work in favour of the movie. The comic bits are hilarious especially the ones with Bhura, and also, the drunk scene with Bhura and Gattu will have you in splits. The film manages to give you doses of laughter every now and then but, overall it is not impactful.

Performances: Rajkummar Rao has given his best performance despite the not-very-pleasant role! He brings out the characteristics of Gattu so well that you seriously get irritated by his behaviour despite knowing that it is a film. His performance earns all the points as usual.

Herry Tangri shines like a gem in this film. Last seen as a young Yuvraj Singh in Dhoni’s biopic, Herry impresses and stands out like no other in this movie. His accent, his performance and comic timing is bang on! In one particular scene where he cries after getting beaten by Binni’s brother is hilarious!

Shruti Haasan has a limited role and is not been given much to do in the film. She is justifiable as Binni and looks beautiful.

All the other supporting actors including Darshan Jariwala , Ninad Kamat , Gulshan Grover , Ranjeet among others are good.

Music: The songs are non-groovy while the background score is average. The last song which is the remix version of ‘Jaanu Meri Jaan’ is foot tapping and fun!

Final Verdict: Rajkummar Rao fans can have a treat watching their favourite actor in a light-hearted film. Overall the film is passable.
