Kaalakaandi Review: The actors lifted their characters up to the mark, but the director couldn’t lift the film.

Kaalakaandi Plot:

The movie revolves around the lives of 6 people in Mumbai city and is just about a one night story. Akshat Verma has tried to sum up the movie by showing what Kaalakaandi the 6 characters do and in just one night how they screw up their lives by doing things they have never done before.

Kaalakaandi Performance Review:

The strongest point of the film is its characters and their over the top performances. The movie has a lot of characters, wherein Saif Ali being the lead, is the limelight of the film. Other than Saif, the movie shows the chemistry of Deepak Dobriyal and Vijay Raaz , who successfully nailed the mentor-protege role. Then we have Akshay Oberoi , who is shown as the jerk, who cheats on his fiancee, Amyra Dastur , on his wedding night. Then the film also has the pairing of Shobita Dhulipala and Kunaal Roy Kapur , who is shown as the cute couple but gets involved in the hit and run case. Apart from these six, ‘ Kaalakaandi ’ has many brief characters played by Isha Talwar , Shivam Patil , Amanda Rosario, Shenaz Treasurywala , Nary Singh , Angela Krislinzki , Amyra Dastur (cameo) and Neil Bhoopalam (cameo). Overall, the ensemble cast nailed their performances with whatever screen timing they have been provided.

Kaalakaandi Direction Review:

‘ Kaalakaandi ’ is the directorial debut of writer Akshat Verma , who in the past has penned the super hit film, ‘ Delhi Belly ’. Though many expected to see the same magic, Akshat couldn’t save the film this time. He put all the characters in the film very aptly but couldn’t manage to get the pace. Described as the dark comedy, the humourous parts were least and the film was more of a stoner drama. The movie could have been much better if the whole and sole part of it would have been Saif, but as there were a bunch of actors, Akshat failed to take them all with the same pace.

Kaalakaandi Technical Aspect Review:

Start to end the movie was slow. Audiences were forced to wait for funny or humourous scenes. If we see it as a drama film then it was spot on, but adding dark comedy to its portfolio failed the movie miserably. Characters like Shivam Patil and Shenaz Treasurywala were good for nothing in the film. Though they completely justified their roles, their characters didn’t give any push to the film.

Kaalakaandi Music Review:

The Music of the film is given by Samir Uddin and Shashwat Sachdev, while lyrics have been penned by Anvita Dutt and Akshay Verma . The movie just has one song, ‘Kaala Doriya’, which is a recreation of the retro song by the same name and is completely justified by Neha Bashin . The overall music of ‘ Kaalakaandi ’ is spot on and is played only when required and fits aptly with the film.

Kaalakaandi Final Verdict:

It’s a must watch for all Saif Ali Khan lovers, who want something different from what they have been seeing for the last few months.
