One Line Review: Munna is an avid admirer of legendary Michael Jackson. But circumstances take him away from his passion until he makes a comeback with a bang.

Positive Points: Nawazuddin Siddiqui turns out to be a show stealer with her applause-worthy performance. Action and dance choreography of the film are its major highlights.

Negative Points: Munna Michael is premised on a weak and predictable plot. It offers nothing which you have not seen on the silver screen.

Plot: Abandoned in a rainy night, a little boy is found by Michael ( Ronit Roy ), an aging dancer who does not get work anymore. Michael brings the little boy up as his own son who now means the world to him. He names him Munna ( Tiger Shroff ). While growing up, Munna is fascinated by nothing but dance. He, too, idolizes legendary Michael Jackson like once Michael did. But once he grows up to face the world, Michael advises him to leave dance and find a corporate job.

Tiger Shroff

Soon, destiny takes Munna to Delhi where he meets the nouveau riche Mahinder Fauji ( Nawazuddin Siddiqui ). Mahinder runs a hotel, but his real business is grabbing people’s land unlawfully and making a luxurious living out of it. He is in love with a girl Dolly ( Nidhhi Agerwal ), who is almost double his age. She dances is a hotel. To impress her, Mahinder learns dance from Munna. He even offers her a job in her hotel. But the twist in the story comes when Munna and Dolly fall in love. Will Mahinder let go of Dolly so easily? Or he will wreak havoc on Munna and Dolly’s paradise? To know, watch the film.

Performance: The cast of the film is headlined by four film old Tiger Shroff , Nawazuddin Siddiqui and debutante Nidhhi Agerwal . Tiger has done a good job. We all have to admit that he is one of the finest action stars from the current crop of actors in Bollywood. No one can beat him in dance also. Every frame of Munna Michael shouts out loudly that the film was written keeping him in mind. It is great to see the kind of action sequences he pulls off and amazing dance moves he performs in the film. But does a star need just that to build his stardom? It is true that Tiger has built a massive fan following within 3-4 years of his debut. He is quite popular among children. But a true film enthusiast wants to see diversity in his acts. Like all his previous films, he does not show any variation in terms of acting.

Talking about the new actress Nidhhi Agerwal who is making her Hindi film debut with Munna Michael , she does well what she has been told to do. In the role of a small town girl wishing to conquer the world, she looks good. She plays her part convincingly. It is not easy for an actress to hold a candle to Tiger Shroff when it comes to dancing, but Nidhhi does that quiet gracefully. Overall, she has played her part convincingly. But it is Nawazuddin Siddiqui who steals the whole show with his natural act. He is perfectly cast in the role of a man who originally hails from Haryana and runs his business in Delhi. His comic timing is great. This is the first time where you see him do high octane action sequences and, much to your surprise, he nails it too with great élan. Nawazuddin Siddiqui ’s presence makes the film worth watching.

Direction: The film has been directed by Sabbir Khan , who has previously helmed two successful films with Tiger Shroff , Heropanti and Baaghi . Since both of them form a formidable duo, a lot is expected from them and their latest offering.

In Munna Michael , Sabbir tries to make a full masala entertainer which boasts of everything that a commercial Bollywood potboiler is known for. From high octane action sequences to elaborate song and dance sequences to comedy, Munna Michael has everything, except the most important element of film, a taut, engaging and refreshing story. Action has been Sabbir’s forte and he ensures dollops of action in his new delivery. But unfortunately, what he has shown here in Munna Michael fails to match up to the level of his previous films. In absence of all this, the film might pull crowd to theatres because of Sabbir and Tiger’s previous track record.

Technical Aspects: When you promote a film as a dance film, it needs to be high on dance. Thankfully, the film does not disappoint in that department at all. The choreography of all the songs used in the movie is excellent. Those electric moves by Tiger and Nidhhi, coupled with loud music look amazing on screens. The film has been beautifully cinematographed by Hari Vendantam .

Music: Though the music of the film is not chartbusting, it gels well with the narrative. Songs like ‘Main Hoon’ and ‘Ding Dong’ are good and make you groove. Other songs are average.

Final Verdict: Munna Michael could have been a far better film, but a flimsy storyline does not help it rise above average.
